The tour began at Kristy’s Backyard Blooms, a family-run business situated outside Centreville. Kristy Dulin showcased her farm’s greenhouse, which received funding support through a state grant. In addition to poultry and grain production, Kristy’s Backyard Blooms...

Maryland officials release timeline, cost estimate, for rebuilding bridge
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Maryland plans to rebuild the Francis Scott Key Bridge in just over four years at an estimated cost between $1.7 billion and $1.9 billion, a state transportation official said Thursday. The state plans to build a new span by fall of 2028, said David Broughton, a spokesperson for the Maryland Department of Transportation. He said the cost estimate is preliminary, and detailed engineering specifics have not been confirmed. As salvage efforts continue, authorities also announced late Wednesday they had recovered the body of a fifth person who was missing after the bridge’s March 26 collapse, which shut down the port of Baltimore, one of the busiest ports in the country. Six members of a roadwork crew plunged to their deaths when a container ship lost power and crashed into one of the bridge’s supporting columns. The Key Bridge Response Unified Command announced that the victim found Wednesday was identified as Miguel Angel Luna Gonzalez, 49, of Glen Burnie, Maryland. All of the victims were Latino immigrants who came to the United States from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras.
Maryland approves more than $3M for a man wrongly imprisoned for murder for three decades
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Maryland officials on Wednesday approved more than $3 million in compensation for a Baltimore man who spent 31 years in prison on a wrongful murder conviction. Gov. Wes Moore apologized to Gary Washington during a Board of Public Works meeting where the compensation was approved. “On the behalf of the entire state, I’m sorry for the failure of the justice system,” Moore said, adding that while no amount can make up for the injustice, he prayed the state could provide compensation “in a way that your family deserves.” Washington was a 25-year-old new father when he was convicted in 1987 of first-degree murder and a gun crime in the fatal shooting of Faheem Ali the year before.

Broadneck Parents Make Prom Breakfast Possible
This was not a typical Friday-night party. A group of parents gathered with hot-glue guns to make hedges out of boxes. The activity embodied the spirit of the Broadneck High School prom breakfast committee and its approximate 25 members. Hands on. Doing whatever it takes to make the event a success.
Easton extends streak, but Eagles win title
EASTON — Prior to the beginning of this season, Easton High first-year head softball coach Ryan Brice made a calendar. “I just had us going to the Bayside championship game and states, ‘cause I told them I believed in them that much, that they could do anything that they put their mind to,” Brice said. The Warriors continued their push toward turning Brice’s calendar into reality Thursday, grinding out a...
Severna Park’s Michael Costa Dishes Mediterranean Fare As Concept Chef At Renowned D.C. Restaurant
“Over the years, as Zaytinya’s ‘Greek Grandmother,’ I have had the privilege to work often with the wonderful kitchen team, led by concept chef Michael Costa. He is one of the rare people I know so obsessively dedicated to making everything as it should be, never cutting corners, on the contrary insisting, for example, that fresh chickpeas are used in the spring for the special green hummus although it is such a pain to peel the tiny pods. He makes sure that everything that comes out of the kitchen is absolutely as it should be, as José originally imagined it.”
