Crews hoping to paint over 100 fire hydrants in Marshfield this summer
MARSHFIELD, Wis. - Utility crews in Marshfield will paint the city's fire hydrants on Central Avenue this summer to keep up with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) identification standards. The NFPA fire hydrant standards allows firefighters to easily identify how many gallons per minute will flow from a fire hydrant.
Replacing railroad crossing is a waste of resources
Now is the time to remove the railroad crossing on Hwy. 64 in Medford. Earlier this spring, it was announced that the rail crossing on Hwy. 64 was going to be removed entirely as part of the Hwy. 64 state road project. This news was met with celebration by everyone who has been jostled or had to swerve as they went over those tracks to prevent damage to their vehicles. It was likewise met with eager anticipation from community members that the unused rail corridor could finally inch closer to being redeveloped into a positive for the economic benefit of the region.
Marathon says no to Scouts’ meetings request
Marathon City’s trustees denied a request last week by the local Boy Scout troop to use the village board’s meeting room for adult leadership meetings. By a vote of 5-2, the board rejected a motion by village president Kurt Handrick to allow Scout leaders to hold monthly meetings in the municipal center’s board room on a six-month trial basis. Handrick, a former Scoutmaster, offered to attend the meetings himself to make sure village property was secure and the room was left in good shape.
Two people injured in two vehicle crash in rural Hillsboro
HILLSBORO, Wis. – Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson reports on Saturday, June 1, at. approximately 12:00 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office 911 Dispatch Center received a report of a two-vehicle crash that occurred at the intersection of County Road EE and County Road Q, rural Hillsboro, in the town of Greenwood.

Driver recovering after vehicle goes airborne in crash at race track
MARSHFIELD, Wis. (WBAY/Gray News) -- A Wisconsin short track racer is recovering at home after a scary crash at Marshfield Motor Speedway on Monday. According to a statement from the track, on lap six of the X-treme 4′s feature race on June 1 at the 1/2-mile asphalt speedway, drivers Phil Malouf and Tim Hintz made side-by-side contact on the back straightaway.

City liquor, cigarette licenses to increase
It will cost more for businesses to renew their alcohol and tobacco products licenses next year as the city agrees to pass along the actual cost of doing background checks. At Tuesday’s Medford city council meeting, aldermen approved changes to the fee schedule for the beer/liquor/wine licenses as well as the fee schedule for cigarette/tobacco/vape licenses. These licenses are required for retailers to sell the products in the city.
