TROY (WWJ) -- A young woman could face jail time after police say they caught her driving drunk last week while out celebrating her 21st birthday.

At around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, Troy Police said officers pulled the 21-year-old Sterling Heights resident over at E. Long Lake and John R. Rd.

Police said the driver told officers she had just left a nearby bar where she'd been celebrating her birthday, but that she'd only had one drink.

She agreed to perform several sobriety evaluations, but police said she performed poorly.

The woman then took a preliminary breath test with a result of .239% BAC (blood alcohol concentration), according to the police report.

The driver, whose name was not released, was arrested and taken to the Troy Police lockup where a chemical breath test showed results of .188% and .181%.

The woman was issued a citation for Operating with a Blood Alcohol Content of .17% or more, police said.

Under Michigan's "Super Drunk Laws," drivers with a BAC more than twice the state's legal limit of .08% may face stiffer penalties, including up to 180 days in jail.
