New era at Shellburg Falls: Tweaked hikes, changed trailhead, burned but beautiful forest
One of the most popular hikes in the Santiam Canyon will look a lot different when it reopens Friday. The Shellburg Falls Recreation Area has been closed since the 2020 Labor Day Fires burned across it, torching almost 75% of its forest north of Mehama and closing access to a site beloved by Salem residents.
Salem hit-and-run victim dies days later
SALEM Ore. (KPTV) - A man hit by a truck in a hit-and-run in Salem died three days later. Around noon on May 5, police and medical responders were called to the 4100 block of Rickey Street Southeast after a man crossing the street was hit by a truck. The truck then left the scene.
