Anderson, Syed, and Ward elected to St. Paul School Board at-large seats

Seven candidates were running for three at-large St. Paul School Board seats. The winners are: Stephanie Anderson with 22.32%, Omar Syed with 21.25%, and Uriah Ward with 20.21%. Also running were Tamara Mattison who garnered 10.89%, Teresa Glass with 10.37%, Michael Schell with 7.26% and Kris Taylor with 7.01%. Write-ins got 0.69%.

Princeton, Milaca schools plan Veterans Day tributes

PRINCETON/MILACA — Local communities are preparing to honor veterans with a series of events, including a memorial presentation, parade and concert. Veterans Day falls on Wednesday, Nov. 11, this year, with activities planned in Princeton and Milaca to recognize those who have served in the U.S. military. Veterans memorial presentation The Princeton Area Library will host historian and photographer Jay Grammond on Saturday, Nov. 7, for a virtual road trip showcasing veterans memorials throughout Minnesota. The presentation will highlight memorials ranging from street names and granite monuments to statues and other tributes honoring the service and sacrifices of military members. Grammond will share the history and significance of both well-known landmarks and lesser-known memorials, offering participants an opportunity to learn more about how Minnesota communities recognize veterans. The presentation will take place from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the library, 100 Fourth Ave. S. Registration is encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome as space allows. Grupa wins Elk River Ward 1 race by 68 votes

Incumbent Cory Grupa will serve another term on the Elk River City Council after narrowly defeating challenger Shelly Binsfeld in the Ward 1 race Nov. 3. Grupa received 1,125 votes, or 51.37%, to Binsfeld’s 1,057 votes, or 48.26%, a margin of 68 votes. Eight additional votes were cast for write-in candidates. Both precincts in the ward had reported. Grupa said he campaigned with the same intensity he did four years ago, including knocking on doors, but expected a close race. “I figured it would be close because she has very similar thoughts and processes and beliefs,” he said. “I just knew that it could go either way.” Grupa said he believes residents want common sense from city government, particularly when it comes to taxes and spending. He pointed to the city’s 2027 budget and levy discussions as an example of the work involved in balancing service needs with the cost to taxpayers. Looking ahead, Grupa identified the planned downtown construction project as a priority, saying the city needs to protect businesses and minimize disruption when work begins in 2027. Noecker beats Perez-Vega in close Ramsey County District 5 race

Current Ward 2 St. Paul Council member Rebecca Noecker beat state District 65B Representative Maria Isa Perez-Vega by just 119 votes to become the next Ramsey County District 5 Commissioner.
