Sunday, May 19: Toasty temperatures before storms arrive

    By Matt Hefner,

Break out the sunscreen and tank tops as today is shaping up to be the warmest day we have experienced in 2024. Temperatures have to shoot up to 85 degrees in order to set a new mark to beat. I like our chances to do just that.

After a mostly patchy foggy start, temperatures will climb into the upper 80s under mostly sunny skies.

Later tonight a line of thunderstorms will be approaching from the West, but thankfully, these storms will smash into a wall of stable air and rapidly break down. Right now I am only expecting our northwestern counties to get clipped with overnight rain.

Monday is going to be another warm and sunny day. Temperatures will be comparable to what we will be getting for today. A shake-up to the pattern is set to arrive Tuesday night.

A low-pressure system will track across the midwest and catalyze severe weather activity late on Tuesday. We have issued a weather-aware day in preparation for this event as supercell thunderstorms capable of producing all forms of severe weather will be on the table. Stay tuned as more information will be coming out over the next couple of days.

After severe weather passes Tuesday night, we will transition to a very soggy and stormy pattern. We will face a nearly daily chance of rain and thunderstorms up to Memorial Day Weekend.
