    Springfield man sentenced for distributing heroin

    SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A man from Springfield, Missouri has been sentenced to 10 years in prison without parole in federal court on Wednesday, May 8, for distributing heroin in Greene County.

    According to The U.S. Department of Justice for the Western District of Missouri. 42-year-old James D. Elbert pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute heroin on July 5, 2023.

    From Oct. 2, 2015, to Nov. 13, 2017, Elbert confessed to giving out at least 100 grams of heroin as part of a conspiracy in Greene County. He also said that he gave 6.86 grams of heroin to an undercover law enforcement officer in Springfield three separate times.

    Elbert is the final defendant to be sentenced out of nine in this heroin conspiracy case.
