SPRINGFIELD–Holly Hesse coached her final home game of her illustrious, 36-year career for Missouri State on Saturday. Unfortunately, it didn’t end in storybook fashion.

The Bears lost 3-1 to the Indiana State Sycamores to close out their regular season. The narrow loss also cost them the conference series.

The two teams were tied 1-1 entering the top of the 6th, and that’s when the Sycamores broke the gridlock. The visitors were able to scratch out two precious runs in the frame – one off a sacrifice fly, and the other, off a fielding error in center field that allowed a runner to score from third.

With the regular season complete, the Bears and nine other teams from the league will compete in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. The winner earns an automatic berth to the Women’s College World Series.

The tournament runs from May 8-11.
