Las Kangris opens in downtown Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Revitalization of downtown Springfield pushes forward as another small business officially opened its doors Tuesday morning.

Las Kangris on Main Street is added to a list of women and Latino-owned businesses that only continues to grow. The owners held a ribbon-cutting ceremony outside the restaurant together with community members and local elected officials.

Representatives Carlos Gonzalez and Orlando Ramos were among attendees who joined in a celebration which included some food samples! This grand opening is the start of an exciting new chapter for the owners but also the greater Springfield community.

“Across the state, there’s a million Latinos across the state, and small businesses and microbusinesses are growing 34-percent versus one percent in any different demographic. So we are opening up more businesses, more jobs. Eight jobs here in the city of Springfield from Las Kangris, two women-owned businesses making a big impact,” said Andrew Melendez, Founder and Director of the Latino Economic Development Corporation.

Legislation is currently in the works to get about half a million dollars to the Latino Economic Development Corporation to continue the growth of Latino businesses in Springfield and beyond.
