Springfield’s South End neighborhood residents share their investment plan ideas

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Discussions continue about investment plans for city of Springfield neighborhoods. The South End was the topic of conversation Thursday night.

The Pioneer Valley Planning Commission (PVPC) hosted a workshop at the South End Citizens Council Inc. to help create a neighborhood investment plan that outlines the top priorities for the next 10 years. They heard input from residents, stakeholders and business owners. This comes after the COVID-19 pandemic disproportionately impacted the neighborhood.

Among the ideas proposed were installing street lights, planting more trees, expanding police presence and more market rate housing. “The neighborhood wants to be a place where everybody can live safely and comfortably and eager to continue to bring economic development to the neighborhood and have a place people can live with their families,” said Director of the Land Use and Environmental Department at PVPC, Catherine Ratte.

There will be a meeting for the Metro Center neighborhood next Wednesday, April 24th at the South Congregational Church from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
