    Luttrell's heroics lift SHG to regional title plus other 1A/2A baseball, softball regional results

    Saturday’s regional results

    BASEBALL

    CLASS 2A

    NO. 2 SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN 6, NO. 5 PITTSFIELD 5: At Pittsfield, Gage Luttrell delivered a walk-off, two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning and SHG won the regional title in dramatic fashion.

    Charlie Linderman started the seventh with a single and Tyler Springer was hit by a pitch. Andy Antonacci then walked to load the bases, setting up Luttrell for his two-run single.

    The Cyclones scored three runs to take a 3-1 lead in the second. Carson Butler had an RBI single, and Drew Ward drove in two runs with a double.

    Pittsfield rallied with four runs in the sixth, highlighted on a two-run single by Tim Hull to give the Saukees a 5-3 lead. SHG got within a run on a sacrifice fly by Butler.

    Max Powers was the winning pitcher for SHG, striking out two in one relief inning.

    SHG (22-9) plays fourth seed Auburn (13-12) in the Pleasant Plains Sectional semifinals at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

    NO. 1 PLEASANT PLAINS 2, NO. 4 NEW BERLIN 1: At New Berlin, pitchers Taylor Brewer and Cooper Schallenberg combined on a five-hitter and Plains defeated Sangamo Conference foe New Berlin to claim the regional championship.

    Plains (29-7) plays third seed Litchfield in the Pleasant Plains Sectional semifinals at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

    Brewer was the winning pitcher as he pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing four hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

    Zach Ponce and Drew Green gave the Cardinals a 2-0 lead with RBI singles in the third and sixth innings, respectively.

    New Berlin put runners on first and third with one out in the seventh and scored a run on Bryce Pridemore’s sacrifice fly off Schallenberg. But Schallenberg ended the game when he got Wesley Preckwinkle out on a pop out.

    Losing pitcher Lucas Bixby went the distance. Bixby struck out eight, walked one and yielded five hits and two runs (none earned).

    NO. 4 AUBURN 4, NO. 1 PIASA SOUTHWESTERN 1 (8 innings): At Virden, Auburn’s Jed Ferguson walloped a go-ahead RBI double in the top of the eighth inning and the Trojans scored three times to upset Southwestern for the regional championship.

    Clayton Dinardo added a run-scoring single and Brady Boylen walked with the bases loaded to cap off the eighth.

    Pitchers Zach Newbold, Evan Kessler and Dinardo teamed up to hold Southwestern to one earned run. Dinardo threw 3 1/3 innings and allowed four hits and no runs.

    Newbold tossed 3 2/3 innings, giving up three hits and one run, while Kessler had two strikeouts and got the final three outs in one scoreless inning.

    Auburn tied the game in the sixth when Newbold scored on a groundout from Dinardo with the bases loaded. But Southwestern got out of the inning, turning a double play to keep the game even.

    CLASS 1A

    NO. 1 MOUNT PULASKI 3, NO. 5 DECATUR ST. TERESA 1: At Decatur, winning pitcher Luke Martin and teammate Chance Payne combined for 14 strikeouts and held St. Teresa to three hits to win the regional championship.

    Martin gave up three hits and one unearned run to go with seven strikeouts and three walks. Payne pitched 2 1/3 hitless innings and fanned seven with five walks.

    Mount Pulaski scored twice in the bottom of the third inning when Landon Smith singled in a run and stole second and third before scoring on a passed ball.

    St. Teresa scored a run in the fourth and the Hilltoppers plated a run in the fifth with an RBI single from Franklin Wade.

    Mount Pulaski (25-3) meets No. 2 seed Armstrong, which defeated St. Anne 5-0 in the Armstrong Regional, at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Arcola Sectional semifinals.

    NO. 1 JACKSONVILLE ROUTT 11, NO. 7 CONCORD TRIOPIA 2: At Concord, Nolan Turner had two hits, three runs and two RBIs in Routt’s regional title victory.

    Routt (29-7) advanced to the Mendon Unity Sectional and will play No. 2 seed Glasford Illini Bluffs in the semifinals at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

    The Rockets scored in each inning and finished with 11 hits against Triopia. Bryson Mossman and Dalton Brown (2-for-3) both drove in two runs and winning pitcher Eli Olson and Talon Thompson had two hits apiece.

    Olson dominated, throwing five hitless innings while striking out six and walking four. The one run he allowed was unearned.

    NO. 1 BETHANY OKAW VALLEY 3, NO. 5 PAWNEE 2: At Moweaqua, Ryan Forlines singled in Dylan Miller with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning and Okaw Valley won the regional title on a walk-off.

    Miller singled and stole second base to set the stage for Forlines. Okaw Valley took a 2-0 lead with two runs in the first when Aiden Williams hit an RBI double and Rase Bennett plated a run with a sacrifice fly.

    Pawnee (19-13) scored twice in the third when Trenton Hull hit into a fielder’s choice and two runs came home. Tyler Surber pitched 6 2/3 innings and was the losing pitcher for Pawnee. Surber struck out seven, walked one and allowed three hits and one earned run.

    Okaw Valley advanced to the Farina South Central Sectional semifinals and will play No. 2 seed Altamont at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

    NO. 2 GREENFIELD 5, NO. 5 RAYMOND LINCOLNWOOD 3: At Raymond, Kohen Vetter hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning and the Tigers claimed the regional championship.

    The home run gave Greenfield a 4-3 lead and the Tigers added an insurance run on an RBI single by Brayden Roberts. Brody Reif went 3-for-3 with an RBI for Greenfield.

    Raymond Lincolnwood (19-10) took a 3-2 lead with three runs in the third. Lance Weitekamp had a two-run single, and he scored on a groundout by Kennady Cook.

    Greenfield plays No. 4 seed Waterloo Gibault in the Glen Carbon Father McGivney Sectional semifinals at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Waterloo upset top seed Valmeyer 3-0 to win its own regional

    NO. 1 DELAVAN 6, NO. 5 HAVANA 0: At Delavan, Cole Noreuil and Bryson Horning combined for 19 strikeouts and shared a no-hitter as the Panthers won the regional title.

    In the 18 batters he faced, Noreuil struck out 17 of them to earn the win. The only blemish for Noreuil was a walk to Havana’s Thurston Sisson with one out in the top of the second inning.

    Havana (12-12) didn’t hit the ball out of the infield until Jaron Boggs flied out in the sixth inning when Horning replaced Noreuil.

    Delavan scored a run in the first and struck for five more in the second. Braden Arrenholz (2-for-4) had an RBI single in the first and Noreuil (2-for-4) drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk before Horning swatted a grand slam in Delavan’s five-run second.

    Delavan plays No. 3 seed Bluffs, which won the Liberty Regional, in the semifinals of the Mendon Unity Sectional at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

    SOFTBALL

    CLASS 2A

    NO. 1 GILLESPIE 14, NO. 6 STAUNTON 2 (5 innings): In the Class 2A Gillespie Regional title game, Sadie Sholtis hit a two-run home run and finished with a pair of hits, three RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Miners to their third regional title in four seasons.

    Emma Gipson, Laci Schuckenbrock and Macie Wright all drove in a pair of runs apiece for the Miners (28-4). Gipson and Schuckenbrock both had three hits each. Gipson doubled and tripled.

    Gipson struck out five in her complete-game effort. She allowed two runs on four hits and one walk.

    Ele Feldmann was 2-for-2 with an RBI to lead Staunton while teammate Taylor Nolan doubled for the Bulldogs, who finished their season 17-6.

    Gillespie will face No. 3 Breese Mater Dei (16-14) in the Class 2A Greenville Sectional semifinals on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

    NO. 2 QUINCY NOTRE DAME 3, NO. 3 BUFFALO TRI-CITY 1: At Buffalo, Lauren Miller singled and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth inning and the Raiders went on to win the regional.

    Tri-City opened the scoring with a run in the first on an RBI single by Kamryn Sturdy. QND tied the game in the bottom half on a Tri-City error that scored pitcher Caitlin Bunte.

    After going ahead 2-1, the Raiders added a run in the sixth when Alyssa Ley singled in a run.

    The Tornadoes (26-6) finished with six hits and pitcher Lily Woodworth took the loss in the circle. Woodworth struck out nine, walked six and gave up three hits and one earned run.

    Bunte recorded eight strikeouts and walked one in a complete-game win.

    QND plays top seed Stanford Olympia at the Williamsville Sectional on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

    CLASS 1A

    NO. 1 CARROLLTON 9, NO. 4 PAWNEE 0: At Raymond Lincolnwood, pitcher Lauren Flowers tossed a one-hit shutout and drove in two runs as Carrollton won the regional title.

    Flowers fanned 11 and walked two. She went 2-for-4 with a double and a home run and finished with two RBIs. Daci Walls was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Hayden McMurtrie collected three hits and scored three times for Carrollton.

    Leadoff hitter Amber Bradbury had the only hit for Pawnee, a single with one out in the sixth.

    Carrollton plays No. 2 seed Okawville in the semifinals of the Carrollton Sectional at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

    NO. 1 GLASFORD ILLINI BLUFFS 11, NO. 4 RUSHVILLE-INDUSTRY 0 (5 innings): At Hartsburg, Cora Ellison fanned 10 batters, walked one and threw a two-hitter as Illini Bluffs triumphed in the regional title game.

    Illini Bluffs (21-1) moves on to the Illini Bluffs Sectional semifinals and will play No. 3 seed Payson Seymour at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

    Lexi Brinkman went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Anna Tibbs had two hits and two RBIs in the victory. Sara Finn and Annabelle Fortin had two hits, an RBI each and two runs scored apiece.

    Devin Vogler had two hits for Rushville-Industry.

    Friday's results

    SOFTBALL

    CLASS 2A

    NO. 1 AUBURN 1, NO. 4 CARLINVILLE 0 (8 innings): At Pleasant Plains, Addison Wheatley hit a bases-loaded walk-off single to center field in the bottom of the eighth inning and Auburn captured the regional championship.

    Addison Jones scored the game-winning run after she walked to lead off the inning and was sacrificed to second. Winning pitcher Meena Taylor was intentionally walked, and Piper Taylor drew a walk to load the bases for Wheatley.

    Meena Taylor overpowered Carlinville in the circle, striking out 10 and walking two. She limited the Cavaliers to two hits.

    Hallie Gibson was the tough-luck losing pitcher for Carlinville. Gibson allowed four hits and finished with five strikeouts and seven walks.

    Auburn advanced to the Williamsville Sectional semifinals and will meet the winner of the Tremont Regional between No. 3 Carthage Illini West and No. 2 Tremont at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

    NO. 1 STANFORD OLYMPIA 7, NO. 4 WILLIAMSVILLE 2: At Stanford, Danika Frazier threw a complete game and hit a home run to lead the Spartans to the regional championship.

    Frazier struck out eight and walked none while allowing five hits and two earned runs. Her two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning gave Olympia a 2-1 lead. Jordyn Turner and Kat Springer had two hits each and Emma Books drove in two runs with a double for the Spartans.

    Izzy Nowack had an RBI groundout for Williamsville in the first, and Nicole Sinks had an RBI double in the sixth. Sinks finished 2-for-3 and leadoff hitter Naomi Roberts had two hits and scored twice.

    Stanford Olympia plays the winner of the Buffalo Tri-City Regional between No. 3 Tri-City and No. 2 Quincy Notre Dame at the Williamsville Sectional at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

    CLASS 1A

    NO. 4 RUSHVILLE-INDUSTRY 11, NO. 5 DELAVAN 2: At Hartsburg, Devin Vogler homered twice and drove in five runs to lift the Rockets to the regional title game.

    Rushville-Industry struck early, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning and three more in the second. Vogler hit a three-run inside-the-park home run to right field and Kate Vogler scored on a passed ball for a 4-1 lead after one.

    Winning pitcher Italee Ford hit a two-run triple to center, and she came home on a passed ball to make it 7-1 in the second. Vogler then hit another inside-the-park home run, this time to center field and driving in Ford, as Rushville-Industry increased its lead to 9-1 in the fourth.

    The Rockets finished with 12 hits as Audrey Sutor, Charlee Gerleman and Brynna Swan collected two hits apiece.

    Ford pitched a solid outing in a complete-game performance. She fanned 11 batters, walked three and yielded three hits and two earned runs.

    Rushville-Industry plays No. 1 seed Glasford Illini Bluffs for the championship at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

    NO. 3 HAVANA 5, NO. 2 CONCORD TRIOPIA 2: At Havana, the Ducks erased a two-run deficit and rallied with five runs in the top of the seventh inning to win the regional championship.

    Havana advanced to play top-seeded Pleasant Hill in the Glasford Illini Bluffs Sectional semifinals at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

    Jadyn Stone led off the big seventh inning with a double and Lily Snowden singled to put runners on first and third. Jaylynn Sarnes and Lauren Herbst both singled as Havana tied the game 2-2 with four straight hits.

    Kaydi Miller was then intentionally walked, and the Ducks took the lead with two more runs when Sarnes scored on an error and Herbst stole home. Miller also stole home to complete the five-run inning.

    Abby Cowell and Stone finished with two hits apiece and starting pitcher Hannah Hodgson threw a complete game for the win. Hodgson struck out three, walked six and allowed six hits and two earned runs.

    Addison Rohn drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to give Triopia a 1-0 lead in the third and Rhianna Lovekamp had an RBI single in the sixth to account for the Trojans’ two runs.

    BASEBALL

    CLASS 2A

    NO. 5 PITTSFIELD 9, NO. 3 WILLIAMSVILLE 3: At Pittsfield, Williamsville committed four errors and the Saukees took advantage to record a regional semifinal win.

    Pittsfield plays No. 2 seed Sacred Heart-Griffin for the championship at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

    The Saukees scored four runs in the third inning and added five in the fourth to take a 9-1 lead. Williamsville had three errors in the third and Hayden Gratton had an RBI single in the inning.

    Losing pitcher Brayden Saling gave up four runs (none earned) on three hits and had three strikeouts and one walk in three innings for Williamsville.

    Winning pitcher Brennan Tomhave controlled the Bullets on the mound. Tomhave went the distance, striking out 11 and walking two while limiting Williamsville to three hits and no earned runs.

    Saling scored on an error in the fourth and a balk by Tomhave, including a passed ball, brought in two runs for Williamsville in the fifth.

    CLASS 1A

    NO. 5 HAVANA 4, NO. 3 ABINGDON-AVON 3: At Abingdon, Jaron Boggs scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly by Kaden Olson in the top of the seventh inning and Havana advanced to the title game.

    Havana plays No. 1 Delavan for the Delavan Regional championship at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Delavan defeated No. 8 Manito Midwest Central 15-0 on Friday.

    Boggs, who finished 3-for-4 and scored twice, singled with one out to get things going in the seventh. He reached third when Landon Oatman walked, and Carter Brooks (3-for-4) singled to load the bases for Olson.

    Havana scored a run each in the first, second and third innings. Olson plated Boggs with a sacrifice fly in the first and a single by Boggs forced an error, bringing in Lukas Miller in the second. Alec McGrew had an RBI single in the third.

    Abingdon-Avon scored two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to tie the game off Havana starting pitcher Thurston Sisson. Sisson threw 5 2/3 innings, giving up six hits and three runs (two earned) with five strikeouts and four walks.

    Brooks pitched 1 1/3 scoreless relief innings for the win. He struck out two, walked none and allowed one hit.

    Thursday’s results

    BASEBALL

    CLASS 2A

    NO. 3 LITCHFIELD 8, NO. 6 PANA 0: At Gillespie, it was quite a whirlwind day for Litchfield coach Rocky Giannuzzi. After his wife gave birth to their first child on Tuesday, the family went home on Thursday. Giannuzzi made it to the Class 2A Gillespie Regional semifinal in time to watch his Purple Panthers set the program record with its 25 th win .

    The Saathoff brothers played a major part.

    Carson Saathoff, a senior, struck out 10 batters in six scoreless innings. He allowed one hit and no walks in his dominating start. Max Leitschuh fanned two to finish the game.

    Sophomore Ethan Saathoff hit a two-run single in the bottom of the third to score Drake Gasperson and Tate Dobrinich, which gave Litchfield a 3-0 lead.

    Gasperson, a senior, put Litchfield on top 1-0 in the bottom of the first with a sacrifice fly to score sophomore Matt Bywater. Ian Otto doubled, had an RBI single and scored a run.

    The Purple Panthers scored four unearned runs off five Pana errors, and Litchfield stole six bases.

    Cash Lynch had the lone hit for Pana (11-16).

    Litchfield (25-7) will face No. 2 Gillespie (23-8) in the regional championship game on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Purple Panthers are looking for their first regional title since 2012, the last time the team had won 24 games.

    Gillespie beat Litchfield in a South Central Conference matchup on April 5, 7-0.

    NO. 4 NEW BERLIN 5, NO. 6 PETERSBURG PORTA 3: At New Berlin, the Pretzels scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and moved on to the regional championship game.

    New Berlin will face Sangamo Conference foe and No. 1 seed Pleasant Plains at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

    Lucas Bixby scored the first run for New Berlin after he doubled and came home on an error by PORTA in the fourth. The Pretzels added two more runs in the inning to take a 3-0 lead.

    Barrett Morse singled in a run to get PORTA within 3-1 in the fifth, but an RBI sacrifice fly by Trevor Colwell gave New Berlin a 4-1 lead in the bottom half.

    The Bluejays answered with two in the sixth to cut their deficit to 4-3 until Ryan Hepperly (2-for-3) had an RBI single for the Pretzels to create the final score.

    Gannon Dodd finished 2-for-4 with a run scored, and Colwell pitched 5 1/3 innings to earn the pitching win. Colwell struck out six, walked zero and allowed six hits and two earned runs.

    NO. 4 AUBURN 6, NO. 5 SHELBYVILLE 4: At Virden, Peyton Campbell cleared the bases in the bottom of the first with a three-run single to put the Trojans on top as Auburn punched its ticket to the Class 2A North Mac Regional title game against No. 1 Piasa Southwestern.

    Shelbyville loaded the bases in the top of the first with one out before pitcher Cooper Carter worked out of the jam by inducing an infield fly and a ground ball back to himself for the third out.

    Carter, Zach Newbold and Jud Ferguson all reached to load the bases for the Trojans in the bottom of the first before Shelbyville pitcher Chase Wells got a pair of outs. Campbell hit a ground ball to right field on the first pitch he saw from Wells to unload the bases.

    The Trojans (12-12) got two insurance runs in the bottom of the second. Brady Boylen walked and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Ledger Munds. Carter singled to center and the runners moved to second and third. Newbold walked before Boylen scored on a passed ball. With two outs, Carter scored on another passed ball to give Auburn a 5-0 edge.

    The Rams (15-13) cut into the lead with a run in the third and fifth innings. Auburn took a 6-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth when Evan Kessler hit an RBI single to score Newbold. Hampton Petska hit a two-run homer for Shelbyville in the sixth to get within two runs.

    Carter finished 2-for-3 for Auburn, and he allowed two runs on eight hits and five walks for the win.

    Newbold finished with one hit, was walked twice and stole two bases.

    Auburn will face Southwestern at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The Trojans are seeking their first regional title since 2016.

    CLASS 1A

    NO. 5 PAWNEE 12, NO. 4 NOKOMIS 2: At Moweaqua, Carter Morell finished with five RBIs and Pawnee scored four runs each in the third, sixth and seventh innings to advance to the regional title game.

    PHS will play top-seeded Bethany Okaw Valley at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

    Nick Rice had an RBI double, Carson Wort singled in a run and Tyler Surber delivered a two-run single in Pawnee’s four-run third.

    Morell got into the act when he belted a grand slam in the sixth to put Nokomis ahead 8-0. He added an RBI single in the seventh and Trenton Hull highlighted the inning with a run-scoring triple.

    Rice, Wort, Surber, Morell and Hull finished with two hits apiece in the win, and starting pitcher Jacob Butler threw six strong innings, allowing just four hits and no runs. Butler struck out six and walked one.

    NO. 5 RAYMOND LINCOLNWOOD 5, NO. 2 EDWARDSVILLE METRO-EAST LUTHERAN 4: At Raymond, the Lancers erased a two-run deficit with three runs in the top of the sixth inning and rallied to advance to the regional championship game.

    Lincolnwood plays No. 2 seed Greenfield for the title at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

    Drew Gilpin started the sixth with a single and stole second base. He scored on a Brody Lush single to get Lincolnwood within 4-3.

    The Lancers loaded the bases on a single by Jhude Walker and a walk by Brodey VanHooser. Donny Daugherty was then hit by a pitch, tying the game at four apiece. Mason Tryon’s sacrifice fly gave Lincolnwood a 5-4 advantage.

    Lincolnwood scored twice in the first inning on a groundout by Lush and winning pitcher Jonah Elvidge scored on a wild pitch. Elvidge went the distance, giving up nine hits and four runs (three earned) with four strikeouts and one walk.

    SOFTBALL

    CLASS 2A

    NO. 4 WILLIAMSVILLE 3, NO. 5 DEER CREEK-MACKINAW 2 (10 innings): At Stanford, Norah Dodsworth drove in Nicole Sinks with a single in the bottom of the 10th inning and Williamsville won on a walk-off to advance to the title game.

    Sinks started the 10th with a triple and the Bullets will face No. 1 seed Stanford Olympia at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

    Pitcher Hope Keenan earned the win in relief, striking out four, walking none and yielding six hits and no runs in 5 1/3 innings. Lucy Nell was the starter and gave up four hits and two earned runs to go with three strikeouts and no walks in 4 2/3 innings.

    Williamsville led 2-0 when Naomi Roberts homered in the first inning and Elle Smithers tripled to score Dodsworth in the third.

    Deer Creek tied it with two runs in the fifth, getting RBI singles from Addyson Carithers and Payton Schweigert.

    Dodsworth finished 3-for-4 and Smithers and Nell had two hits apiece for the Bullets.

    CLASS 1A

    NO. 2 HARDIN CALHOUN 8, NO. 6 NOKOMIS 1: At Nokomis, pitcher Audrey Gilman dominated in the circle with 18 strikeouts and the Warriors won the regional title game.

    Hardin Calhoun will face the winner of the Valmeyer Regional in the semifinals of the Carrollton Sectional at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

    Gilman didn’t allow a walk and gave up four hits and one run (none earned). Grace Ballard went 3-for-4 with a double, triple and two runs scored for Calhoun. Gilman had a hit, an RBI and scored three times, and Anabel Eilerman went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

    Camryn Engelman had a base hit and an RBI for Nokomis.

    Wednesday's results

    BASEBALL

    CLASS 2A

    NO. 2 SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN 3, NO. 7 QUINCY NOTRE DAME 1: In the Pittsfield Regional semifinal on Wednesday, Gage Luttrell hit a solo home run to spoil Abram Wiewel’s perfect game as the Cyclones advanced to Saturday’s regional title game.

    With one out in the bottom of the fifth inning, Luttrell loudly snapped Wiewel’s perfect game attempt with a homer over the wall in center field.

    The Cyclones got insurance runs in the sixth when Drew Ward took a one-out walk then scored on a hard ground ball double from Charlie Linderman. Linderman gave SHG a 3-0 lead when he came around on Tye Springer’s single.

    Andy Antonacci struck out 14 to get the win after 6 2/3 innings pitched. He allowed one run in the seventh on four hits and three walks. Max Powers induced the final out for the save.

    The Cyclones (21-9) had just three hits.

    SHG will face either No. 3 Williamsville or No. 5 Pittsfield at 11 a.m. on Saturday for a chance to advance to the Pleasant Plains Sectional semifinals.

    NO. 1 PLEASANT PLAINS 10, NO. 8 ATHENS 0 (6 innings): In the New Berlin Regional semifinal on Wednesday, Trager Shultz and Grady Grisham each drove in two runs apiece to lift the Cardinals into the regional title game.

    Grisham and Carter Durako both had doubles for the Cardinals.

    Sean Lowder got the win by striking out nine in 4 2/3 innings. He didn’t allow a run on three hits and no walks.

    Cody Tobias had a pair of hits for Athens.

    The Cardinals will meet either No. 4 New Berlin or No. 6 Petersburg PORTA in the regional title game.

    NO. 6 PETERSBURG PORTA 7, NO. 11 BUFFALO TRI-CITY 0: At the New Berlin Regional quarterfinal, Levi Hoagland drove in four of the Bluejays’ runs and he teamed up with Nash Donnan to combine for a two-hit shutout.

    Hoagland was 2-for-3 with the four RBIs. One of his RBIs came on a sacrifice fly.

    Donnan got the win with six strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings pitched. He allowed one hit and no walks. Hoagland tossed 2 1/3 innings, allowed one hit and one walk and finished with four strikeouts.

    PORTA will face No. 4 New Berlin in the semifinal on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

    NO. 2 GILLESPIE 10, NO. 9 HILLSBORO 0 (5 innings): In the Gillespie Regional semifinal on Wednesday, Tristen Wargo was nearly flawless in a shutout win for the Miners.

    Wargo struck out seven and allowed just one hit against no runs and no walks in an abbreviated complete-game. He also drove in two runs and doubled.

    Luke Schuckenbrock had a pair of RBIs and he also had a double for the Miners while Bryce Buhs tripled and scored twice.

    Gillespie (24-8) will face either No. 3 Litchfield or No. 6 Pana in the regional title game on Saturday at 1 p.m.

    NO. 1 PIASA SOUTHWESTERN 1, NO. 7 NORTH MAC 0: At the North Mac Regional semifinal, the Piasa Birds got one run in the bottom of the first and made it hold up for the win.

    Chase Millburg led the Panthers with three hits, including a triple. North Mac got seven hits total but just couldn’t push across the tying run.

    Quinn Morrow was handed the tough loss. He struck out four after allowing just one run on three hits and one walk.

    Southwestern will face either No. 4 Auburn or No. 5 Shelbyville for the regional title on Saturday at 11 a.m.

    NO. 1 COLUMBIA 10, NO. 10 STAUNTON 0 (6 innings): In the Columbia Regional semifinal on Wednesday, Columbia scored four runs in the bottom of the first and fourth innings to take an insurmountable lead.

    Brady Gillen had the lone hit for the Bulldogs, who finished 10-22.

    Columbia will face No. 4 Breese Central on Saturday at 11 a.m. for the regional championship.

    CLASS 1A

    NO. 1 JACKSONVILLE ROUTT 4, NO. 8 RUSHVILLE-INDUSTRY 1: In the Concord Triopia Regional semifinals, sophomore Bryson Mossman hit a pair of doubles and drove in a run to lead the Rockets into the regional title game.

    Routt took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Brady Turner hit a ground ball that scored Isaac Long and reached on an error. Conrad Charpentier scored on a double steal to give the Rockets (28-7).

    Turner gave Routt a 3-0 lead with an RBI ground out in the third. Mossman’s RBI double in the fifth put the Rockets on top 4-0.

    Charpentier struck out 12 in a complete-game win. He allowed one run on five hits and one walk.

    Bennett Fretueg hit an RBI single in the sixth for Rushville-Industry.

    Routt will face either No. 4 Mount Sterling Brown County or No. 7 Triopia on Saturday at 11 a.m. for the regional championship.

    NO. 1 MOUNT PULASKI 15, NO. 9 CERRO GORDO 0 (4 innings): In the Decatur St. Teresa Regional semifinals, Chance Payne was 3-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs as the Hilltoppers cruised into the regional title game.

    Tyler Cross added three RBIs for Mount Pulaski (24-3) while teammate Liam Smith had a pair of hits.

    Eric Cooper struck out eight in his complete-game shutout. He allowed one hit and one walk.

    The Hilltoppers will face either No. 4 Argenta-Oreana or No. 5 St. Teresa in the regional title game on Saturday at 11 a.m.

    SOFTBALL

    CLASS 2A

    NO. 3 BUFFALO TRI-CITY 12, NO. 6 WARRENSBURG-LATHAM 5: In the Buffalo Tri-City Regional semifinal on Wednesday, Lily Woodworth struck out 14 and had two hits and a pair of RBIs as the Tornadoes advanced to the regional championship game.

    Four Tri-City hitters had multiple hits, including Audrey Cooper, Lexie Patton and Marlie Deerwester. Patton doubled, scored twice and drove in two runs for the Tornadoes (26-5) and Deerwester had three RBIs.

    Shelby Oakley hit a grand slam to put Warrensburg-Latham (20-12) ahead 4-1 in the top of the third inning.

    Tri-City will face Quincy Notre Dame at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The winner advances to the Williamsville Sectional semifinals.

    NO. 6 STAUNTON 4, NO. 4 ROXANA 2: In the Gillespie Regional semifinals, Ele Feldmann hit two doubles and drove in two runs to lift the Bulldogs to the regional title game.

    Taylor Nolan doubled and tripled for Staunton and added an RBI.

    Pitcher Gianna Bianco struck out five and allowed two runs — one earned — on six hits and two walks for the Bulldogs.

    Staunton will meet No. 1 Gillespie in the regional title game on Saturday at 11 a.m.

    NO. 8 TEUTOPOLIS 8, NO. 4 PANA 6: In the Effingham St. Anthony Regional semifinal on Wednesday, Shelby Ashcraft and Kennedy Bowker combined for five RBIs in the Panthers’ season-ending loss.

    In the bottom of the third, Ashcraft hit a three-run home run to right field to pull Pana within 5-4, three batters after Bowker put the Panthers on the board with an RBI single. Bowker and Bailey Evrley each had two hits for Pana (19-10).

    The Wooden Shoes (17-17) will face No. 1 Effingham St. Anthony for the regional title on Friday at 4 p.m.

    NO. 1 STANFORD OLYMPIA 10, NO. 6 PETERSBURG PORTA 0 (6 innings): In the Stanford Olympia Regional semifinals, the Spartans scored two in the bottom of the first and four in the second to take a commanding lead on Wednesday.

    PORTA’s Aubrey Vogel drew a walk as the only blip on Olympia pitcher Danika Frazier’s line.

    The Spartans will face either No. 4 Williamsville or No. 5 Deer Creek-Mackinaw for the regional title on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

    PORTA finished its season 12-11.

    NO. 3 BREESE MATER DEI 4, NO. 6 HILLSBORO 0: In the Vandalia Regional semifinal on Wednesday, Sophia Blankenship and Audrey Shultz had the Hiltoppers’ only hits in their season-ending loss.

    Hillsboro ends the season 12-14.

    Mater Dei will face No. 2 Carlyle in the regional title game on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

    CLASS 1A

    NO. 3 HAVANA 2, NO. 6 SCIOTA WEST PRAIRIE 1: In the Havana Regional semifinal, Lily Snowden singled with two runners on in the bottom of the sixth to give the Ducks a late lead.

    Abby Cowell led off the inning with a walk and with one out, Jaydn Stone singled on a bunt. With two on, Snowden lifted a fly ball to left field. Cowell scored on an error on the play.

    Havana tied the game thanks to another error. Kaydi Miller led off the third with a bunt single then moved to second on an error when Addi Atwater’s sacrifice attempt was misplayed. Libble Johnson then drove in Miller on an RBI single to center field.

    Stone and Snowden each had two hits apiece for the Ducks (14-11).

    Hannah Hodgson struck out nine and allowed six hits in her complete-game win. Havana will meet No. 2 Concord Triopia on Friday at 4:30 p.m. for the regional championship.

    Tuesday's results

    BASEBALL

    CLASS 2A

    NO. 8 ATHENS 5, NO. 10 RIVERTON 0: At the New Berlin Regional, Kyle Weatherford and Davis Ishmael combined to throw a no-hitter and Athens advanced to Wednesday’s regional semifinal against No. 1 Pleasant Plains.

    Weatherford threw the first three innings and struck out eight without allowing any hits or walks. Ishmael went four innings with three strikeouts and two walks.

    Ishmael also had two hits while Weatherford had a double with two RBIs. Josh Harris reeled off two hits and three RBIs.

    CLASS 1A

    NO. 5 PAWNEE 9, NO. 11 RAMSEY 0: At the Moweaqua Central A&M Regional, Carson Wort reeled off thre doubles and four RBIs to lift PHS to Thursday’s regional semifinal against No. 4 Nokomis.

    Carter Morell and Jacob Butler each had two hits and two runs. Coy Clark struck out eight in three innings and allowed just one walk.

    SOFTBALL

    CLASS 2A

    NO. 2 QUINCY NOTRE DAME 8, NO. 9 SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN 0: At Buffalo, QND pitcher Caitlin Bunte handcuffed SHG by striking out 17 and throwing a two-hit shutout in the regional semifinal.

    QND meets No. 3 Buffalo Tri-City or No. 6 Warrensburg-Latham in the regional championship game at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

    Bunte didn’t allow a walk in the complete game win. QND scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning with two of those coming off an SHG error. Alyssa Ley added a run-scoring double in the inning.

    The Raiders tacked on three more runs in the fifth and two in the sixth. Bunte hit a two-run double in the fifth and came home on another SHG error.

    The Cyclones finished with six errors and losing pitcher Kenzie Wieland allowed just five hits in six innings. She struck out 11, walked five and all eight runs were unearned.

    NO. 1 GILLESPIE 3, NO. 9 PIASA SOUTHWESTERN 2: At Gillespie, Ava Parish hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning and the Miners rallied with three runs in the regional semifinal.

    Gillespie plays No. 6 Staunton or No. 4 Roxana for the championship at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

    Gillespie trailed 2-0 in the fifth until Macie Wright reached on an error and went to second. Wrigley Releford hit an RBI sacrifice fly one batter later and Wright scored to make it 2-1. Delaney Taylor was hit by a pitch and that set up Parish’s go-ahead home run.

    Winning pitcher Emma Gipson struck out nine, walked three and gave up four hits and two earned runs. Sydney Valdes doubled, tripled and had an RBI and a run for Southwestern.

    NO. 1 AUBURN 11, NO. 8 NORTH MAC 0 (5 innings): At Pleasant Plains, Meena Taylor tossed a two-hit shutout and Taylor Patterson drove in three runs in Auburn’s regional semifinal victory.

    Taylor struck out 10 and walked zero. Meena Taylor doubled in a run and Addison Wheatley ripped a two-run triple in Auburn’s three-run first inning. Patterson had an RBI single, and Piper Taylor added a two-run single to give the Trojans a 6-0 lead in the second.

    Auburn blew the game open when Sydney Rabideau smacked a two-run home run and Patterson did the same in a four-run third inning.

    NO. 2 CARLYLE 5, NO. 9 LITCHFIELD 4 (10 innings): At the Vandalia Regional, Ella Rolfingsmeyer hit the walk-off sacrifice fly to score Raelyn Harris and advance to Friday’s regional final against the winner between No. 3 Breese Mater Dei and No. 9 Litchfield.

    Carlyle tied the game at 4-all with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Sophia Hoffmann scored the tying run on a Carlie Wademan bunt single. Rolfingsmeyer Hoffmann and Faith Weaver each had two hits for Carlyle.

    Avery Eversgerd struck out 14 in 8 2/3 innings. She allowed two earned runs on five hits and two walks. Emma Meyer picked up the win with two strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings.

    Alexis Miielke led Litchfield with two hits and two RBIs. Lili Anne Readenour suffered the loss with 10 strikeouts in a complete game. She gave up 11 hits, four walks and four earned runs.

    NO. 4 CARLINVILLE 9, NO. 5 PLEASANT PLAINS 4: At the Pleasant Plains Regional, Hallie Gibson spurred a big first inning with a 2-RBI double and the Cavaliers scored five runs in the frame en route to the regional finals against No. 1 Auburn on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

    Addison Ruyle supplied a two-run home run in the second frame and finished with two hits, three RBIs and two runs. Isabella Tiburzi doled out two doubles and a triple with three runs. Gibson ended with two hits, two RBIs and two runs.

    Hallie Gibson picked up the win in a complete game. She struck out 10 and gave up two earned runs on two hits and nine walks.

    Aspen Kitowski took three walks for Plains. Hadley Ryan had a hit and two runs.

    CLASS 1A

    NO. 4 PAWNEE 19, NO. 5 RAYMOND LINCOLNWOOD 5 (5 innings): At the Raymond Lincolnwood Regional, Ava Rodriguez homered and PHS scored nine runs in the second inning en route to Saturday’s regional final against top-seeded Carrollton.

    Amber Bradbury went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs, including a double and triple. Haley Maretti mustered three hits with four RBIs while Rodriguez had two hits with two RBIs and three runs. Elissa Day had three hits with two runs and an RBI.

    Maretti grabbed the win in the circle. She allowed one earned run on one hit and four walks with five strikeouts.

    Monday’s results

    BASEBALL

    CLASS 2A

    NO. 9 HILLSBORO 10, NO. 10 CARLINVILLE 0 (6 innings): At the Gillespie Regional, Nathan Matoush struck out 13 and allowed just three hits and one walk in a complete game.

    The Hiltoppers advance to the Wednesday’s regional semifinal against the No. 2 host Miners at 4:30 p.m.

    Matoush also had two hits and two RBIs, including a double. Elliott Lentz hits a two-run home run in the third inning. Ketch Mills had two hits and three runs.

    NO. 7 NORTH MAC 3, NO. 8 SULLIVAN 0: At the North Mac Regional, Cade McCready scattered six hits and five walks in seven innings without allowing a run. He struck out three.

    Aidan Hatalla, Camden Earley and Andrew Scroggins each had a hit and RBI for the Panthers, who will meet top-seeded Piasa Southwestern on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

    NO. 7 QUINCY NOTRE DAME 10, NO. 9 BEARDSTOWN 4: At the Pittsfield Regional, Gustavo Cortes and Colby DeSollar each recorded two hits in the loss.

    QND advances to the regional semifinals against No. 2 Sacred Heart-Griffin on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

    CLASS 1A

    NO. 8 RUSHVILLE-INDUSTRY 9, NO. 11 GRIGGSVILLE-PERRY 3: At the Concord Triopia Regional, Rylan Reimolds went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs to advance to Wednesday’s regional semifinal against top-seeded Jacksonville Routt at 4:30 p.m.

    Reimolds delivered two doubles in the process. Wyatt Folwer chipped in three hits and two RBIs, including a double.

    NO. 8 MOWEAQUA CENTRAL A&M 10, NO. 9 LUTHERAN 1 (6 innings): At the Moweaqua Central A&M Regional, Tad Andrews led the Crusaders with two hits and scored the only run in the loss.

    SOFTBALL

    CLASS 2A

    NO. 9 LITCHFIELD 12, NO. 10 VANDALIA 0 (5 innings): At the Vandalia Regional, Laynie Wyatt struck out nine and allowed one hit and one walk for the Purple Panthers.

    She also had two hits with an RBI and two runs, including a double. Charlie Bono posted two hits and three runs in the leadoff spot.

    NO. 9 SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN 17, NO. 11 RIVERTON 1: At the Buffalo Tri-City Regional, the Cyclones chalked up 16 runs in the first inning en route to Tuesday’s regional semifinals against No. 2 Quincy Notre Dame.

    Libby Kulek doled out two doubles with two RBIs and three runs. Kenzie Wieland had a triple and scored twice while earning the win in the circle. She struck out five and allowed no hits.

    NO. 6 PETERSBURG PORTA 10, NO. 8 ATHENS 8: At the Stanford Olympia Regional, Morgan Miller finished 4-for-4 with an RBI and run and the Bluejays rallied from an 8-2 deficit beginning in the fifth inning.

    PORTA scored five runs in the fifth to trail by one run. That sequence included an RBI double by Miller.

    Marissa Jiannoni followed with the game-tying RBI single in the sixth while Kylie Tiemeyer belted the go-ahead 2-RBI double for the final score.

    Jiannoni and Aubrey Vogel each had two hits.

    Preslie Buckmaster and Layken Buch led Athens with two hits apiece. Sydney Nance cleared the bases with 3-RBI double in the fourth.

    NO. 8 NORTH MAC 5, NO. 7 PITTSFIELD 3: At the Pleasant Plains Regional, Karleigh Prose cranked out the go-ahead RBI single in the top of the seventh to reach Tuesday’s regional semifinal against top-seeded Auburn.

    Ines Ortigosa, who had two hits with two RBIs and two runs, followed with an RBI single before scoring on a Lennox Wiseman single. Abby Hendricks also supplied two hits.

    NO. 5 PLEASANT PLAINS 19, NO. 10 NEW BERLIN 0 (4 innings): At the Pleasant Plains Regional, the Cardinals racked up 14 runs in the first inning en route to Tuesday’s regional semifinal against No. 4 Carlinville.

    Addy Davis and Aspen Kitowski each ushered two hits with three RBIs and two runs. Kayden Skinner had provided two hits with two RBIs and three runs while earning the win in the circle. She struck out six and allowed just one hit.

    NO. 9 MACOMB 4, NO. 10 BEARDSTOWN 3: At the Tremont Regional, Zoey Wagoner delivered the walk-off RBI single in the seventh to knock off the Tigers.

    Kylynn Maltby led Beardstown with two hits.
