SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Two streets in the City of Springfield are set to be converted from one-way to two-way traffic in the coming weeks.

Starting May 6, 4th Street will be converted between South Grand Avenue and Dodge Street, along with Adams Street between 6th and 9th Streets. The conversions are expected to be complete by May 10, depending on the weather.

As part of the conversion on Adams Street, parking will become reverse angle on the south side of the street.

City officials said the purpose of these conversions is to improve the traffic infrastructure of Springfield, improving traffic flow while creating safer, more accessible streets. The change in parking on Adams is to improve parking efficiency and reduce traffic collisions.

Drivers and pedestrians are asked to exercise additional caution when traveling on 4th and Adams during the conversion period, looking for other vehicles and pedestrians that may be unaware of the new traffic directions.
