    Council approves liquor license transfer for combined Nick's La Cabana

    SPOONER — The Spooner City Council approved transfer of a Class B liquor license from La Cabana to Nick’s La Cabana Restaurant at their meeting Tuesday, May 7.

    Steve Olsen of Corporation Southern Enterprises of Spooner, Inc., who owns Nick’s Family Restaurant, the La Cabana Mexican restaurant and River Street Restaurant, asked for the transfer from La Cabana, 527 N. River St., to Nick’s at 122 Vine St. in Spooner. The council said Olsen will be combining Nick’s and La Cabana into one restaurant while keeping River Street the same.

    In other action Tuesday night, the council:

    Presented plaques to outgoing Alderpersons Chuck Gagnon and Rick Coquillette for their service on the council (Gagnon for five years and Coquillette for over 20).Heard during Mayor Gary Cuskey’s comments that the artist for the Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad was donating a painting of the former roundhouse on the railroad site.Approved a park reservation request for the Washburn County Area Humane Society in Centennial Park on July 20 for Pets in the Park.Approved a temporary Class B retailer’s license to the Spooner Cardinals baseball team for multiple dates from May to July.Postponed a Republic Services request to remove #5 recycling commodity credit in the current contract so the council could do more research.
