Man arrested for fatal shooting during robbery in Spokane Valley apartment

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - A man was arrested for his involvement in shooting on March 8 that left one teenager dead.

Spokane Valley Major Crimes Detectives arrested 29-year-old Brendon M. McCullough, a convicted felon, and charged him with multiple felonies for his involvement in the shooting.

The deceased teenager was identified as 16-year-old Nathaniel Byers.

Police said Byers, McCullough and two other adults went to an apartment on S. Bowdish Road for a drug deal that turned into a robbery.

While inside the apartment McCullough showed a handgun, which police said lead to an altercation with the male that lived in the apartment.

Byers entered the apartment later with a gun. Police said a second man that lived in the apartment exchanged gunfire with Byers.

McCullough left the scene and was taken into custody after crashing a vehicle while travelling at speeds over 100 mph. The vehicle was also seized.

After executing search warrants on McCullough's apartment and vehicle, detectives large amounts of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia.

McCullough was charged robbery, attempted first-degree robbery, first-degree assault , second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of a controlled substant with intent to deliver.
