Cement Spill Leads to Temporary Closure of Portion of Highway 71 in Clay County
(Greenville)–A cement spill led to traffic being disrupted for a time Wednesday on a stretch of Highway 71 between 460th Street and 480th Street near Greenville. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says a cement truck accidentally lost some of its load late Wednesday morning. Both lanes of the highway were reportedly covered in wet cement for about three-quarters-of-a-mile.
Truck Accidentally Spills Wet Cement on Highway 71 South of Spencer

Update: Highway 71 Around Goat Hill Reopened Following Cement Spill
Greenville, IA (KICD)– A section of Highway 71 south of Spencer has after being shut down due to a spill late Wednesday morning. A two mile stretch of road from 460th to 480th Streets, also known as the Goat Hill area, was closed for about an hour as crews worked to cleanup cement that had been spilled onto the highway causing delays in the area.
Farm to Fork Fundraiser Returning to Clay County Fair and Events Center

Okoboji, IA (KICD)– A Southwest Iowa man has been charged after fleeing the scene of a crash in the Iowa Great Lakes Area. Online court records 71-year-old Charles Sandvold of Soldier was taken into custody on Monday after allegedly leaving the scene of a collision with another vehicle at the intersection of Highway 71 and Stakeout Road in Okoboji.
Spencer Girls Fall in State Quarter-Finals
Des Moines, Ia (KICD) – The Spencer Tiger Girls Soccer team ran in to North Scott for the Class 2A State Quarter-Final Tournament. Clay County Accident
Spencer, IA (KICD) — A Greenville woman was injured after the bike she was riding was struck by a car. The Clay County Sheriffs Office released details on the August 15th accident, in the 2000 mile of 440th Street. 59-yr old Mary Fairchild was riding a Trek bicycle east, and was then struck by a 2017 Cadillac CTS, driven by 42-yr old Lisa Krieger of Rossie.
Spencer Tigers girls soccer season ends in state quarterfinal
SIOUX CITY, IOWA (KCAU) – The Spencer Tigers fell to #3 North Scott 3-0 in the IGHSAU State Tournament quarterfinals. Spencer ends its season with a fifth consecutive trip to the state tournament. The Tigers complete the year with a 15-4 record.

High-Speed Chase Ends In Peterson With Arrest
Peterson, Iowa — A high-speed chase ended just a few miles east of our area on Sunday night and resulted in multiple charges for a Holstein man. Clay County Sheriff’s officials tell us that officers attempted to stop a car driven by 28-year-old Wesley Euchner in the 48-hundred mile of 125th Avenue, about two and a quarter miles north of Peterson. That’s about seven and a half miles east of Sutherland. The vehicle was allegedly going 69 miles per hour in a 55 zone. Officials tell us the vehicle continued to accelerate and reached speeds over 110 miles per hour.

Holstein Man Charged Following Clay County Pursuit
Peterson, IA (KICD)–A Holstein man is facing a number of charges after allegedly fleeing from Clay County law enforcement over the weekend. A Deputy with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office was reportedly running radar near Peterson around 10:30 Sunday night when a traffic stop was initiated on a speeding vehicle. Instead of pulling over, the driver is said to have continued to increase velocity reaching speeds in excess of 110 mph during a pursuit that was ended at the Peterson city limits.
