HEAT Called in to Assist with Dickinson County Arrest
Milford, IA (KICD)– A West Okoboji man wanted in O’Brien County is behind bars following his arrest in Dickinson County yesterday. The Milford police department was alerted that a potentially dangerous subject was possibly in town. The High Risk Entry Arrest Team was activated and went to the home of 26 year old Keaton Leach.
Three People Facing Charges After High Speed Pursuit in NW Iowa
(Pocahontas)--Three people are facing charges after a high speed pursuit this past Sunday that began in Pocahontas and ended in Clay County. At approximately 4:30 am Sunday, a Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Deputy observed a vehicle speeding in the 4400 block of Highway 4 near Havelock. When the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, a 2020 Nissan Kicks, the driver accelerated to speeds reaching 100 mph. The driver took deputies down secondary gravel roads and entered the opposing lane numerous times during the pursuit along with shutting the vehicles lights off. A PIT maneuver was conducted by a Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Deputy at the intersection of 330th St. and 470th Avenue in Clay County, successfully stopping the vehicle.

Orange City Resident Arrested for Failing to Yield to Emergency Vehicles near Hospers
On February 22, Justin Robert Soodsma, a 42-year-old man from Orange City, IA, was arrested by the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office. The arrest took place during a traffic stop on Highway 60, south of Hospers, IA. A deputy was assisting with a fire incident when Soodsma did not approach the parked law enforcement vehicles safely.
No Serious Injuries in Crash That Shut Down Part of Dickinson County Highway
Lake Park, IA (KICD)– No serious injuries were reported in a crash that shut down a portion of road in Dickinson County for several hours Wednesday afternoon. Authorities say the incident occurred on Highway 9 east of Lake Park shortly after three o’clock when a semi left the road leading to the closure in both directions until around 5:45.

Spencer, IA (KICD)– Quilts and antique sewing machines are center stage at the current temporary exhibit at the Clay County Heritage Center. REGIONAL—Amid significant changes in Iowa K-12 schools over the last two years, N’West Iowa continues to hold steady in its growth of students. Both the majority of public schools and nonpublic schools in N’West Iowa saw an increase in student enrollment for the 2023-24 academic year, according to the latest Iowa Department of Education statistics. Even schools that saw a decrease are hopeful of growth in the next few years due to the infrastructure growth of N’West Iowa as a whole.

Royal Woman Facing Charges After Drunk Driving Report
(Royal)--A Royal woman is facing multiple charges after Clay County authorities responded to a drunk driving report. Shortly after 1:20 pm on February 14th, the Clay County Sheriff's Office received a report that 29-year-old Hunter Birdsall of Royal was intoxicated and possibly driving to Royal. The report also advised Birdsall would be driving a Ford Edge with a 3-year-old old child and a 1-year-old old child. A Clay County Deputy located Birdsall and the vehicle at her residence.
Semi Trailer Damaged In Highway 60 Fire Near Hospers
Hospers, Iowa — A semi-trailer and its contents were damaged in a fire on Thursday, February 22, 2024, near Hospers. According to Hospers Fire Chief Jason Overmole, just before 2:00 p.m., the Hospers Fire Department was called to the report of a semi with a wheel on fire about a mile and a half south of Hospers on Highway 60.
