SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – A multi-million dollar project to replace and expand the main taxiways at Spartanburg Downtown Airport is underway.

Phase one of the project includes a redo of taxiway A at the airport. Work on the project began in early April, according to the airport.

Work on that taxiway is expected to wrap up in the summer.

A later expansion of taxiway B and construction of new hangars at the airport is expected to begin in the second half of 2024.

Spartanburg Downtown Airport received more than $6.7 million from a federal Airport Improvement Program grant in 2023 to help pay for the taxiway rehabilitation project.

The taxiway improvements will allow the airport to accommodate larger aircraft.
