NC 4th of July Festival to feature parade, fireworks, live music, food and more
SOUTHPORT, N.C. (WECT) - The NC 4th of July Festival will feature a parade, fireworks, live music, food and various other festivities on July 4 and the days leading up to it. “Event highlights include arts and crafts on the Southport waterfront, a parade, fireworks, firefighters’ competition, children’s games, live entertainment, great food, and lots of red, white, and blue,” NC 4th of July Festival announced.
Following preservation project, here’s what’s next for the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge
Driving across the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge is a noticeably smoother and quieter experience following the recent replacement of the driving deck and support beams. The $7.1 million project caused the months-long closure of the eastbound lanes of the vertical-lift bridge, followed by a slightly shorter closure of the westbound lanes, for the replacement of the grid riding deck and more than 50-year-old support beams. Traffic was disrupted in downtown Wilmington, as well as around the city and into parts of Brunswick County, until the project completed ahead of schedule earlier this month.

VFW and Good Shepherd Center host cookout for homeless veterans
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — VFW Post 12196 teamed up with Good Shepherd’s Sgt. Eugene Ashley Memorial Center in Wilmington on Sunday to provide hotdogs, steaks, wings, and hamburgers to homeless veterans. The Eugene Ashley center provides housing year-round for veterans who have no where else to go. Chris Pilloton of the VFW organized the event with the Good Shepherd Center.
