‘Someone knows something’: Family of Oak Island woman found dead in Smith Creek offering $5,000 reward
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - A family is now offering a $5,000 reward for any information about their daughter who went missing six months ago. Anna Walker left her home in Oak Island on October 28, 2023, and then her body was found floating in Smith Creek in Wilmington about a month later on November 25, 2023.
Video shows man getting arrested after crawling out of stolen food truck’s window, per police
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - The Wilmington Police Department arrested and charged 24-year-old Joao Vithor De Lara Silva with stealing a food truck on Wednesday, May 1. According to the WPD, officers were called about the theft initially near 1000 South College Road. The WPD says it was found on Peachtree Avenue soon after, and Silva was found trying to get out of the truck’s window. Video submitted to WECT shows police arresting Silva after he crawled out of the window, the WPD says.
Man arrested following vehicle chase through New Hanover County
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A man was arrested Sunday following a vehicle chase through New Hanover County. The Carolina Beach Police Department say they attempted to conduct a traffic stop at the intersection of South Lake Park Boulevard and Fayetteville Avenue for a traffic violation that turned into a narcotics investigation.
UNCW student credited with finding stolen food truck
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – UNCW student Anna Dupuis remembers the exact moment she knew something was wrong. “I woke up to some banging that was going outside of my window so I peeped out,” Dupuis said. “It seemed like he was destroying the inside or making a bunch of commotion.”
Wilmington police searching for missing teen
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - The Wilmington Police Department released a missing juvenile report for Tywain Clanton on Tuesday, April 30. Per the WPD, Clanton is 16 years old, 5 feet and 9 inches tall and has brown eyes and black hair. He was last seen in the 1100 block of S. College Road.
