    UPDATE: South River Home Explosion Takes One Life

    SOUTH RIVER, NJ  - As reported earlier this evening, a home on 8 Continental Court, South River as of approximately 7:30 pm Thursday evening.  A two and a half story house exploded and is leveled, says a report by Central Jersey Fire Buffs.

    From the photos available, it seems that the house collapsed in on itself.  Neighborhood homes were all affected by the sudden explosion.

    Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Chief Mark Tinitigan of the South River Police Department announced that authorities are investigating an explosion that occurred at approximately 7:03 P.M.  Authorities responded to a residence on Continental Court following a report of an explosion. Upon their arrival, authorities located two male victims who had sustained serious injuries from the explosion.

    One of the victims was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for treatment. The other victim, Kevin Gilbert, 62, of South River, was discovered with fatal injuries. Gilbert succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

    An investigation into the cause of the explosion is active and continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Patrick Molina of the South River Police Department at 732-238-1000 or Detective Matthew Colonna of the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office at 732-745-3354

    Local residents in East Brunswick's neighborhoods close to South River have reported hearing a loud boom, felt some ground shaking, and heard many emergency vehicles headed to the location.  CBS reports that two lives were lost in the blaze, which has drawn firefighters from nearby townships, including East Brunswick.

    The cause of the apparent explosion is unknown at this time.

    Continental Court is located off Leonardine Avenue and is near Kamm Avenue in the Boro.
