Holly Hop Ice Cream Shoppe Lubbock announces final hours of business

Correction : The final day of business is Sunday. One of Lubbock's iconic ice cream shops is shutting down tomorrow afternoon, ending an 18-year run of sweet memories. Holly Hop Ice Cream Shoppe, 3404 34th St., announced via social media late Friday night that Sunday would be its final day of business. "This was not an easy decision, and everything has happened so rapidly," the business stated on social media. The announcement, made around 11 p.m. Friday, invited people for one last hurrah from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday. The shop's antiques and decor will be available for purchase. Holly Hop Ice Cream Shoppe took inspiration from the 1940s and 50s. It opened in 2008 and moved to its current location in 2010 under the ownership of founder Darryl Holland. He sold it in 2021 to Wesley Trook, a then Texas Tech student who has since graduated. Lubbock, Texas — Tailwind Group has acquired The Holly, an 864-bed student housing property located near the Texas Tech University campus in Lubbock. The property offers 288 fully furnished units in two-, three- and four-bedroom configurations with bed-to-bath parity. Shared amenities include two resort-style pools; a 24-hour fitness center; co-working lounge with private rooms; library; walking trail around a private lake; and sand volleyball, pickleball and basketball courts. The new ownership plans to begin a comprehensive renovation program in December, which will include modernizations to community spaces, exterior enhancements and the introduction of smart technology throughout. The seller and terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
