SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -- The Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) has issued a warning to residents about a phone scam involving fake jury duty notices and demands for money.
The scam came to light when a local resident reported receiving a call from a man claiming she had missed jury duty and had an active arrest warrant. The caller demanded that she wire transfer a substantial amount of money from a local convenience store to avoid arrest. The victim, who wishes to remain anonymous, complied, mistakenly believing the caller was a legitimate member of the city's public safety network.
