NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A Middle Tennessean is starting off the first day of meteorological summer with some seriously good luck. The Tennessee Lottery reports a $50,000 winning Powerball ticket was sold in Smyrna. The ticket was able to match four of the five white balls plus the red Powerball from the May 31 drawing.
250 Citations Issued by the Rutherford County Traffic Safety Task Force in a 12-Hour Period
RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - A total of 250 citations were issued to area drivers and visitors in Rutherford County on May 26th by the Rutherford County Traffic Safety Task Force. Law enforcement officers wrote citations for texting and driving to 125 drivers, 116 citations for drivers not wearing seat belts and 9 citations for not securing children in safety seats during an enforcement saturation that took place last Friday at the start of Memorial Day Weekend on May 26, 2023. The enforcement was part of the annual “Click It or Ticket” campaign to educate drivers about the safety of wearing seat belts and buckling children child safety seats, said Murfreesboro Police Lt. Greg Walker.

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - A defendant in a DUI Third Offense case that started with an arrest that was made by a LaVergne Police Officer filed an appeal after being sentenced to 11-months and 29-days behind bars. Sebakire Crode, who was found guilty of driving under the influence for the third time, suggested the sentence was excessive, although Crode only spent 150 days behind bars as opposed to the full 363 days sentenced.
Hundreds of Dollars' Worth of Liquor Reportedly Stolen in Murfreesboro
MURFREESBORO, TN – Lot’s of adult beverages were taken in two recent theft’s that were reported in Murfreesboro. The theft’s occurred about a week before the Memorial Day Weekend. Local detectives now need help from the community in identifying a person of interest. One woman was caught on a surveillance video camera inside the store and police have since released that photo (above this article).

Non-Profit A Soldier's Child Announces the Pre-Sell of their New Tennessee License Plate
RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - A Soldier's Child Foundation has announced a new Tennessee license plate. The Smyrna based non-profit told WGNS these specialty plates are only available for registered Tennessee vehicles and A Soldier’s Child must pre-sell 1,000 plates before production can begin. A Soldier’s Child will receive 50% of all proceeds from the pre-sell of the solid black license plate (see photo above this article).
BJ’s sets opening date for its first-ever store in Tennessee
BJ’s Wholesale Club will soon enter its 19th state — and the 20th isn’t far behind. The membership warehouse club retailer said it will open a location in La Vergne, Tenn., on June 14. MURFREESBORO, TN – Murfreesboro Police continue to investigate a color coordinated duo accused of stealing more than $1,400 worth of goods during a recent shopping expedition, that apparently didn’t require cash. Two subjects entered Bath & Body Works off Medical Center Parkway in the Avenue and began browsing the lovely scents of lotions, soaps and candles. Evidently, the smells were so enticing, they couldn’t help themselves and picked out a few goodies. Their shopping basket quickly filled to the rim, holding what one store employee calculated to equal over $1,000 worth of scented goods, mainly candles.

Man Charged with Attempted Murder after Shooting in Middle Tennessee Blvd. Parking Lot
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Murfreesboro Police officers arrested a man after a shooting and brief foot pursuit on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, several minutes after midnight. 19-Year-old Keonza Scales allegedly ran from MPD officers, but was quickly taken into custody after the shooting, according to Public Information Officer Larry Flowers. Scales is charged with attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Brentwood man dies following injury in Chattanooga triathalon
A Brentwood man died on May 29 just over one week after he sustained a head injury while competing in the Chattanooga Half Ironman competition. 58-year-old Marshall Martin was competing in the bicycle race portion of the May 21 event when he was injured and hospitalized in Chattanooga prior to being transported to a Nashville-area medical facility.
