FEMA to test West Virginia, Pennsylvania response to potential nuke power plant incident
PITTSBURGH (WV News) — The Beaver Valley Power Station, a nuclear facility, is located northwest of Pittsburgh, about 130 miles north of Clarksburg. How would officials in Pennsylvania and West Virginia responde in the event of an emergency at the facility? Finding that out is the object of an exercise Tuesday to be conducted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Second Citizens Sheriff's Academy in Harrison County Set to Begin August 5; Applications Being Accepted
Harrison County Sheriff Robert Matheny is pleased to announce the opening of the second Citizen Sheriff’s Academy. This academy will allow business, religious, civic, and community leaders an inside look at the operation of the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office. The academy will consist of eight weeks of instruction and information, beginning on August 5, 2024 and conclude with a graduation ceremony on September 30, 2024. There is no charge for the academy.

Classes at a West Virginia school will relocate over toxic groundwater fears
Classes at a small West Virginia school will be relocated this fall, two years after the town’s contaminated groundwater was added to a national cleanup priority list. Wetzel County Schools Superintendent Cassandra R. Porter announced the move Tuesday for students, faculty and staff at Paden City High School. They will relocate to existing schools in nearby New Martinsville when classes resume in August.
