Oregon faces mini autumn heatwave with temps 15 degrees above normal

Oregon will enter a mini autumn heatwave beginning this weekend and continuing into next week, according to forecasters. High temperatures are forecast to reach the low- to mid 80s on Oct. 3 and 4, which is about eight to 15 degrees warmer than normal. Normal highs in the Willamette Valley are in the high 60s and low 70s. The pattern is expected to stay in place much of next week as well. “It’s definitely well above normal for this time of year,” National Weather Service meteorologist Adam Batz said. Batz said a high pressure ridge, which diverts cool and wet air from the Pacific Ocean, is causing the abnormally warm weather. In Portland, the daily high temperature could be in jeopardy on Oct. 4, when the record is 84 degrees. Batz said he expects Oct. 4 to be the warmest day of the system, but temps are expected to remain warm until late next week — around the Oct. 9, 10 and 11 period. He said the warm weather will dry out fuels and could lead to a small uptick in wildfire activity, but he doesn’t expect it to amount to much following a wet September that quelled most major
