“We’re just donating 50% of all our sales from 5:00 to 8:00 at any of the Sioux Falls Taco John’s and Five Guys, in Yankton and Mitchell Taco John’s as well,” Vice President of Operations Ted Miller said.

Miller is Vice President of Operations and says the dollars raised will benefit the Avera Race Against Cancer.

“It’s touched us so many times within our organization that it just seemed like a great partner and something we all want to get to the bottom of and get a cure for cancer,” Miller said.

Miller says this is their biggest fundraiser of the year, with 20 restaurants stretching from Sioux Falls and Sioux City to Rapid City hoping to top last year’s mark of more than $80,000.

“We want to reach $100,000 this year, collectively between our stores,” Miller said. “Our second year incorporating Sioux City into it so it’s just helping grow the cause,” Miller added.

Several inmates will face charges stemming from last month’s prison disturbances

“There’s no organization in town that raises more money for us than Taco John’s and Five Guys every single year,” Avera Foundation’s Elijah Bonde said.

Elijah Bonde is the Community Giving Manager with the Avera Foundation.

“These dollars go directly to help fund the Avera Race Against Cancer, which is a full fundraiser for the Avera Cancer Institute, so 100% of the proceeds we raise from the race, that event, support ACI both here in Sioux Falls and all the way across the Avera Health region,” Bonde said.

It’s a race that’s less than three weeks away.

“We broke 4,000 people last night. We’re hoping for 6,000 or so, right now we’ve got just over $450,000 raised and we’re gunning for about $725,000 total, all we’re banking on is good weather,” Bonde said.

And Miller plans to do more than just raise money.

“I’m going to run, see if I can do it without getting injured again (laugh),” Miller said.

The fundraiser is Wednesday night from 5:00 to 8:00 at Taco John’s and Five Guys, with 50 percent of all sales going to the Avera Race Against Cancer , which is set for May 11th.
