Four years after a brutal crime, the court case against a Sioux Falls murder suspect is on hold. Investigators believe 23-year-old Amir Beaudion Jr. kidnapped a woman in a Walmart parking lot in 2020 and then raped and killed her. He allegedly dumped her body in rural Lincoln County.

Today, he was back in court. His court-ordered mental health treatment is on hold, and so is the case.

Amir Beaudion Jr. was in a Sioux Falls courtroom for what is called a status hearing.
He is accused of kidnapping, raping, and murdering 20-year-old Pasqalina Badi in early January 2020. According to court documents, on January 5th of 2020, Badi was leaving her job at the Walmart on the East side of Sioux Falls. Cameras caught Beaudion following her to her car. He’s accused of kidnapping her from the parking lot and raping and murdering her before dumping her body.

Last year Beaudoin underwent a mental health test which showed he was suffering from a mental disease or defect and is unable to understand the nature and consequences of the legal proceedings.

Arrests made after Lead drug bust

The judge ordered Beaudion to receive up to four months of mental health treatment, which can include therapy and medication. But at today’s hearing the judge learned that the competency restoration process hasn’t even begun because Beaudoin is on a waiting list for treatment at the South Dakota Human Services Center.

For lack of a better term, it is a legal log jam.

Until a spot opens up and the restoration process can be completed the legal proceedings will be put on hold, and Beaudoin will remain in the Minnehaha County Jail. At the same time, Badi’s family will continue to wait for justice in what is now a 4-year-old murder case. Beaudoin’s next status hearing is set for May 21st.
