SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KCAU) — The Siouxland Freedom Park is in need of volunteers at the Brigadier General Bud and Doris Day Interpretive Center .

Throughout the interpretive center, there are interactive displays, memorabilia, and exhibits that share the powerful and personal stories of Siouxland veterans. But in order to show these exhibits, it requires the help of volunteers from the community.

The interpretive center is only open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center sometimes has to close its doors because of no available help.

Board member Lori Risdal said the misconception they get is that you need to be a veteran to volunteer, which is not the case. However, they do like to have one on hand.

“You don’t have to have a military background, but we would love for our veterans to come because it is a really good opportunity to talk to others,” Risdal said. “We find a lot of veterans come, so it’s a good opportunity to talk to the veterans, other veterans and kind of share their stories with others.”

Risdal said that they do accept people at least 16 years old, though anyone at that age will need to be under adult supervision.
