SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — A Sioux City man was sentenced to nearly three years in federal prison after admitting to using and selling drugs while possessing a firearm.

According to the U.S Department of Justice, Devonta Cobbs, 23, pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a drug user on Jan. 19, 2024. He was sentenced on May 3, 2024 to 34 months in prison.

In 2022, from about May to June, Cobbs had several firearms while also being an “admitted user of marijuana,” according to a release. When officials were searching Cobbs’ place while investigating a shooting incident, they reportedly found several guns, along with ammo and magazines. They also found marijuana and over $2,000 in cash, the release says.

In addition to his prison sentence, Cobbs will serve two years of supervised release. The federal system does not offer parole.

The Sioux City Police Department investigated the case.
