The Simi Valley City Council will meet in a special closed session Monday morning to discuss appointment of a new city manager.

But the meeting isn't expected to conclude with the council's actual appointment, said City Manager Brian Gabler on Friday.

Rather, the panel will discuss finalists for the position, he said.

Gabler is retiring at the end of June after serving with the city since 1986. He was appointed as city manager in 2020, as the pandemic hit, after serving a year as the interim leader.

The council has worked with a recruitment consultant to find Gabler's replacement.

The special meeting starts at 10 a.m. Public comments can be made before the council goes behind closed doors but must be limited to items on the agenda. The City Council will later convene for its regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Meetings are held in chambers at City Hall, 2929 Tapo Canyon Road.
