Comment: The freshman shortstop/third baseman had a big week at the plate to help the Panthers win two Marmonte League games and a nonleague contest. Last Tuesday, Gutierrez went 2 for 3 with a grand slam and five RBIs as Newbury Park beat Oaks Christian 7-2 to hand the Lions their first league loss of the season. On Thursday, she went 2 for 4 with an RBI in a 9-1 victory over Calabasas. On Friday, Gutierrez was 2 for 3 with a three-run homer in a 10-0 nonleague win over Nordhoff. She is hitting .391 with seven homers and 24 RBIs for Newbury Park, which is 18-4 overall and 5-4 in league.

Jack Laubacher allowed five hits and one earned run while striking out four in 5.1 innings and was 2 for 3 with an RBI at the plate, Quentin Young went 3 for 4 with a double and two runs scored, and Chris Tampoya was 1 for 2 with two RBIs as Oaks Christian (14-11, 9-4) defeated Westlake 3-2 to move within one game of the Warriors (21-4, 10-3) for first place in the Marmonte League. The teams play Wednesday and Thursday to close out the regular season.
