Iconic Berks County family business, Peanut Bar, up for sale after 102 years

READING, Pa. - The owner of an iconic downtown bar and restaurant says he’s selling the family business. Michael Leifer, owner of Jimmie Kramer's Peanut Bar Restaurant, told 69 News Thursday that he made the decision due to health issues. He says it was just the right time to sell as he continues getting older.

New York City Gen Zers are moving to this Pennsylvania valley home to ‘Christmas City USA’

New York’s youngest movers have a surprising favorite escape, and it isn’t Jersey City, Philly or Austin. According to U-Haul’s latest migration report , the top destination for Gen Zers leaving the New York City area is Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley, the region that’s home to Allentown, Easton and Bethlehem, better known as “Christmas City USA.” What U-Haul found For its 2026 Midyear Migration Trends report, U-Haul analyzed one-way truck rentals from July 2025 through June 2026 and sorted them by generation, to see where people at different stages of life are actually moving. For New York City’s Gen Z renters, the top five net-gain destinations were: Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton (the Lehigh Valley) Harrisburg-Carlisle, Pennsylvania Toronto Houston Los Angeles The Lehigh Valley isn’t just a Gen Z thing, either. It also ranked No. 3 for the city’s Millennials . And the valley really is getting younger. Lebanon city officials propose first tax hike in more than a decade

Lebanon City officials are considering a $19.7 million preliminary budget for 2027 that will include a nearly 22% tax increase, the first for residents in more than a decade. Officials are recommending a one mill tax increase, raising the city's millage rate to 5.581 mills. This proposed rate would raise the current total real estate tax revenue to $4.6 million, representing an $818,845 increase in revenue for the city. Mayor Sherry Capello said that after carefully evaluating the city's financial obligations, operational needs, and available resources, she proposed the tax increase to address the city's present needs while protecting long term financial stability. "I did everything I could to not raise taxes for as long as I could, thinking of people's pockets," she told the Lebanon Daily News after the hearing. "But then there comes a time when when you're like 'We have limited staffing and resources' and we also have a responsibility in order to maintain or improve the level of service to the residents and businesses ... it's going to take more money to do that." The owner of a property with an average assessed value of $104,350 would pay the city $582, which is a $103 increase
