Floating into Christmas like…: The Chequit reveals its annual holiday gingerbread “house” this weekend

Labrozzi) Tucked away on the second floor of the Chequit, behind a set of swinging doors adorned with a handwritten sign that says, “Santa’s Workshop – stay out!” Mazie Galle and a team of enthusiastic crafty volunteers have been hard a work baking, piping, smoothing, adorning and constructing this year’s holiday gingerbread masterpiece, a stunning replica of the North Ferry and 26 of the historic hillside homes of the Heights, along with the Ferry House, Union Chapel and pharmacy, leading to the storied inn.

Well, here we are: December. As we rejoice in all the holiday cheer and prepare for 2024, here are some North Fork events this month that we are excited to check out. One of our favorite wintery events kicks off Saturday! The 12th annual Shellabration allows you to sample a multitude of locally caught, creative bites from Greenport’s culinary best, with proceeds benefitting the Cornell Cooperative Extension Marine Program’s Back to the Bays initiative as well as the SPAT Program to fund marine habitat and shellfish restoration (you know we need it!!). The event runs both Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m., with purchased wristbands ($35) getting you discounted $8 tastes and $5 drink pairings from designated eateries.
