SHELBURN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A loose railroad is causing issues as motorists head north on US 41 in Shelburn.

Former Sullivan County commissioner Timothy Abrams said that he saw many malfunctions on this highway.

As cars go over the crossing in the right lane, they drop off onto a visibly loose concrete panel. Abrams said that this can cause cars to lose control and go off the road or cause damage to the springs and shocks in their vehicle.

He said that the residents of this area deserve better.

“I would just like to see somebody step up and take responsibility before somebody gets hurt or their vehicle gets hurt,” he said. “There are a lot of people that travel this road and the taxpayers don’t deserve this at all.”

WTWO reached out to the Indiana Department of Transportaion today about this issue and they sent us a statement that said, “Our district is working up plans for a long-term fix to this crossing. We do not have a timetable yet for this project. For folks who may receive damage from the crossing, we ask that they reach out to our customer service line at indot4u.com .”
