An Alabama police chief has been suspended by the city’s mayor Tuesday, second such suspension in less than two years.

Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr. said he removed the city’s police chief, Kenta Fulford, from active work. Fulford was placed on administrative leave with pay, pending a due process period, which is required by law.

Perkins said the city would hold a press conference at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday to discuss the matter.

Fulford was placed on leave in January 2023, but the Selma City Council put Fulford back on the job.
