Some sauces are a matter of taste. One sauce in north Alabama is a matter of history. Back in 1925, a pitmaster in Decatur started dunking smoked chicken in a tangy white sauce, and the barbecue world has been trying to catch up ever since. Today the same family name still hangs over the door, the pits still run, and the white sauce still lands on the chicken the way it always has.

A Little Too Much boutique opens in Cullman
CULLMAN, Ala. – A new, locally owned boutique opened its doors to the community on Oct. 1, featuring colorful pieces, vintage items and more. A Little Too Much, located in the Warehouse District, is owned by Bailey Frost. “The goal with our store is to encourage women to showcase who they are through their wardrobes and homes,” Frost said. “I encourage our clients to take risks and step out of their comfort zones.” The boutique has a blend and new and vintage decor and clothing items, which means there could be something for everyone, she said. “We have colorful boutique clothing, unique vintage finds and handmade items (pillows, purses, bandanas, jewelry). Hopefully people feel emboldened to showcase who they really are, enjoy listening to whatever is on the record player and leave having a better day than when they came in.” The vision for the store came to Frost, she said, after joining many events and shows and seeing the products sell well. “I’ve done a lot of antique/vintage shows and festivals,” she explained. “I have always dreamed of having a storefront to display my finds and show my creativity through merchandising. We will have new inventory each week. Currently

Hope Horses hosts annual Grow Hope Dinner
CULLMAN, Ala. – Hope Horses hosted its second annual Grow Hope Dinner on Oct. 8. The nonprofit celebrated 10 years of service with a western theme, contests for best boots and hats and dinner. Executive Director Kelsey Scott said she is so thankful for the generosity of those in attendance who poured into their program. She said this year a new annual award was given – Legacy of Hope. “Over the years, (local veterinarian) Dr. Bruce Lee has shown Hope Horses tremendous support,” Scott said. “He has opened doors we could not have opened ourselves. He has stepped in during difficult moments. He has provided knowledge, care, encouragement and security for our program and for the horses that make our mission possible. “The very first Legacy of Hope award was presented to Dr. Bruce Lee for all his support that he has provided Hope since the beginning. Dr. Lee has set a great foundation for our program since the beginning. A stall was also dedicated to him and the entire Lee’s Veterinary Clinic for their support as well.” Scott said more than 250 people came to the Grow Hope Dinner, and they are still finalizing the total amount of donations.
