WNBA superstar Skylar Diggins-Smith was caught on a hot mic making an explicit joke about herself in the Seattle Storm 's preseason opener.

The Storm faced the Los Angeles Sparks , with Diggins-Smith reuniting with former teammate Kia Nurse on the floor and the two embracing.

Diggins-Smith, unaware that Nurse was mic'd up, made some comments she didn't realize would be picked up. Nurse said: "What? I'm 28 now, I am almost 30," before Diggins-Smith responded by saying: "But my ----- old, older." Nurse gasped, before stating: "I'm wearing a mic!"

Diggins-Smith went on to star in the game, scoring 14 points while registering five assists and four rebounds, but the Storm went on to lose to the Sparks, who had second overall pick Cameron Brink score 11 points while adding four rebounds and two blocks after getting the start .

Diggins-Smith made her debut for the Storm after leaving the Phoenix Mercury this past offseason. She accused her former team of "treating her disrespectfully" while on maternity leave .

The six-time All-Star did not appear in a game last season amid the controversy, with the team choosing to keep her away from the facility before she became a free agent this past offseason.

The 33-year-old made All-Star teams for Phoenix in 2021 and 2022, but never seemed to settle with the team after joining from the Dallas Wings in 2020.

Diggins-Smith had been at odds with teammates on the court before her pregnancy, getting into a verbal altercation with teammate Diana Taurasi in 2022.

After joining Seattle this offseason, Diggins-Smith said: "Joining the Seattle Storm is the ideal next step in my basketball journey. The organization's dedication to its players and the progression of the league is commendable.

She added: "I'm laser-focused for the upcoming season. Stepping onto the court alongside Jewell, benefiting from the leadership of Noelle Quinn and feeling the energy of the Seattle Storm fans is a combination that I am confident will lead to success."

Diggins-Smith joins a Seattle team that has struggled since losing last year's WNBA MVP Breanna Stewart to the New York Liberty .

She averaged 19.7 points in her last full season in 2022 with Phoenix. Now with the Storm, she is likely to see enough volume to come close to those numbers, in a team that some expect to compete at the top this year.
