    Man hospitalized after being shot by Seaside officer

    ( KRON ) — A man was hospitalized on Monday after he was shot by a Seaside Police Department officer, police said. Two officers, including the one who fired the shots, were injured in the altercation.

    The shooting happened in the area of Fremont Boulevard and Playa Avenue. Officer Braden Palma fired four rounds and hit the suspect in his right thigh and abdomen, the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office said.

    The man who was shot was identified as Jacinto Cortez-Gerardo, 47. He was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, police said.

    Officials declined to say what he did to injure the officers.

    Officers Palma and Alex Jennings were taken to a hospital and released, per the DA’s office.

    “The District Attorney is currently reviewing body cam and other footage and will have no further comment today,” the DA’s office said.
