SEAFORD – The Seaford School District announced Thursday it will be implementing metal detectors Friday at Seaford High School after a search by the student support team of a high school student’s property during a disciplinary procedure Thursday revealed the presence of a gun and knife.

According to postings on the district website and Facebook page, the School Resource Officer immediately intervened and detained the student while the Seaford Police Department responded.

The posting stated that in response to this incident, the school district will be employing its Weapons Detection System Friday morning at Seaford High School. Additionally, these metal detectors will be utilized randomly throughout the rest of the school year, providing an extra layer oi security.

The student, whose identity was not revealed, was arrested, legal actions are being taken, and the district is fully cooperating with law enforcement to ensure a thorough investigation into this matter, according to the posting.

“We remain committed to providing a safe environment for all students and staff at Seaford High School and throughout our district,” the district’s post stated.
