    Former law enforcement professional charged with retail theft

    DICKSON CITY, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A former officer, prison guard was charged after allegedly stealing three pairs of sneakers for Dick’s House of Sports.

    According to Scranton police on March 25, they were called to Dick’s House of Sports for reports of a retail theft.

    The criminal complaint states that 45-year-old Nicholas Ganz would come into the store wearing one pair of sneakers and leave with a different pair from Dick’s House of Sports.

    Gainz was caught stealing two pairs of sneakers on different occasions totaling up to 279.98, as stated in the criminal complaint.

    During the investigation, Scranton police said Ganz returned to Dick’s House of Sports asking to speak to a manager where he admitted to stealing three pairs of sneakers and asked to pay for them now to make the situation right.

    According to Throop Police Chief Andrew Kerecman, Ganz resigned from his position as a Throop Police Officer on April 16, due to personal reasons and scheduling conflicts.

    Throop Borough Council accepted his resignation at a regularly scheduled meeting on April 30.

    Lackawanna County Communications Director Patrick McKenna said Ganz is a Lieutenant at the Lackawanna County Prison and was placed on paid administrative leave on May 3.

    Officials charged Ganz with retail theft.
