SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Scranton Police are investigating a reported homicide that occurred early Monday morning.
According to the Scranton Police Department, first responders were called to the 1700 block of Pittston Avenue for a reported shooting around 2:55 a.m.
Police say upon arrival, officers discovered a gunshot victim, identified as 35-year-old, Walter Chagon Reyes, and 24-year-old suspect Carlos Rivera.
According to law enforcement, Rivera was taken into custody and Reyes was transported to Geisinger CMC Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Lackawanna County Coroner says Reyes’ death has been ruled a homicide.
The Scranton Police Department says the shooting is the result of a family dispute and is still an active criminal investigation.

“I haven’t personally seen it, but I hear about it all the time. They need to stop the gun violence already stop the gun violence, solve it a different way,” said Bradley Davis, of Scranton.
“I don’t know what happened here last night and I don’t know the circumstances of why someone was shot but are we going back to the old West,” stated Tom Godfrey, Scranton
Police say Rivera is awaiting arraignment and is being criminally charged with murder in the first degree and third, four counts of reckless endangering another person, and aggravated assault.
