His father, home in Brooklyn on leave during World War II, dislocated his hip while putting his foot in his mouth (not a euphemism), a contortion intended for a laugh. Laid up for 12 weeks in a not-so-funny state, he didn’t go when his unit shipped out and went on to join the fight at the Battle of the Bulge. None of the soldiers in that unit returned.

Update on “Where the Crow Lights” Mural on the Elk’s Lodge Building with Pictures
Over the weekend I caught up a little with John Pugh, who has been hard at work the past several weeks on the wall that will become his latest mural, Where the Crow Lights. If you have driven or walked through downtown Ashland recently you may have noticed the scaffolding going up on the side of the Elk’s Lodge building. This is where John will be spending a lot of his time in the next month as he maps out the exact positioning of the piece, preps the wall for installation, and paints the rest of the mural on site. This means smoothing out the wall so that paint can be applied properly and making sure everything is where it should be to create the most striking visual possible.
