SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The state meet is later this week and we have a couple of Johnson teams who have a good shot at placing at that meet.

On the girl’s side, the Atomsmashers have several girls qualified, most notably, the 4 x 200-meter relay team and the 4 x 400-meter relay team. They also have a good shot in some of the field events, like the long jump and triple jump. On the boy’s side, the 4×400 meter relay team finished eighth last year and hopes to move up the podium this year.

“Have the same mindset and motivate my teammates to keep working and just make sure they don’t lose their confidence when they are running,” state qualifier Joshua Quarterman said.

“Once you’re a senior this is your last year in high school,” state qualifier Leryah Bryant said, “then you go to big people school. You go to college. It will be a different atmosphere, it will be more intense. So just getting on the podium as a senior is great.”

“Looking for our girls to hit peak performance,” Johnson head track coach Steven Smith said. “Just like we always do headed into State, as well as, finish in the top three in all the events that we are going to participate in. We definitely have a great chance to do that.”

The state meet for class three runs May 9 through May 11 in Albany.
