Grit with grace: SCAD Sand Arts Festival sculpts the shore on Tybee this Friday

One of the more splashy displays of Savannah's artistry takes place Friday, May 3, on Tybee Island at the Sand Arts Festival, sponsored by the Savannah College of Art and Design's School of Foundation Studies.

Students and alumi, as individuals or as teams, dig in early near the Tybee pier and build elaborate and often whimsical sculptures from the sandy shores of the Atlantic Ocean.

Free and open to the public. Bring your shades and sunscreen for a salt-kissed spectator sport.
