Girls HS Soccer: Country Day outlasts Morgan County, Richmond Hill’s first loss ends season

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The Savannah Country Day girls’ soccer team needed penalty kicks to advance to the quarterfinals of the Georgia Class AAA state playoffs, while Richmond Hill’s first loss of the season ended its season on April 23.

Country Day hosted Morgan County in the second round of the state playoffs. The Hornets got on the board first in what proved to be a back-and-forth game. Neither team held an advantage after 80 minutes of play plus the overtime period. The teams went to penalty kicks to determine a winner. Country Day won PKs, 3-2.

The Hornets advance to the quarterfinals of the playoffs and will travel to Oconee County on April 29 for a spot in the semifinals.

Out in Richmond Hill, the Wildcats hosted North Paulding. There was no score after the first 40 minutes. Early in the second half, Richmond Hill committed a foul inside the box. North Paulding capitalized on the penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead. The visitors added the finishing goal in the 76th minute to win, 2-0.

For Richmond Hill, the loss was its first of the season after going 16-0-2.
