SARONA — Hunt Hill Audubon Sanctuary in Sarona has a number of events coming up this month.

The pine barrens is a unique ecosystem that once covered a large part of Wisconsin. Now, only 1-2% of the original ecosystem remains. Join Hunt Hill on an Adult Field Trip Tuesday, May 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to learn about the history of the Namekagon Barrens and what makes this globally rare habitat so special.

Registration is required by Monday, May 13, at noon or when the program limit of 15 people is reached, whichever comes first. To register, visit www.hunthill.org to complete online registration or call 715.635.6543. There is a fee per person.

Hunt Hill will be hosting a Little Explorers program on Saturday, May 18, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Each program consists of a morning of stories, crafts and nature activities geared toward 3- to 6-year-olds (but all ages are welcome). This month’s topic is wind.

Join Hunt Hill as we discover the magic of wind and its importance in nature. We will read a story about wind, learn how wind helps plants spread seeds and what wind barriers are through an interactive activity. After, we will head outside to understand how the invisible wind shapes our world.

Guardians must stay for the duration of the program. Depending on the weather, we will be outside for a portion of this program. Dress appropriately to be inside and outside in the weather.

Registration is not required but strongly encouraged by Friday, May 17, at noon. The program is free, but donations are appreciated. If you register ahead of time, you must register yourself and your child(ren). For more information or to register, visit hunthill.org or call 715.635.6543.
