Alta Records Back-To-Back 600+ Inch Winters For The First Time In 15 Years

For the first time in 15 seasons, Alta recorded consecutive winters with more than 600 inches of snow. As you've probably heard, last winter in Utah brought record-breaking snow. It was the biggest snowfall year on record and Alta ended the season with just over 900 inches. That's more than 75 feet of snow!

Heading into this winter, it was hard to know how to set expectations. Last winter was just so good! But so far this winter has pulled through pretty well. It got off to a slow start with a long dry spell in December and a scary persistent weak layer problem early on. But since January there have been relatively consistent storm cycles and, thanks to another storm this weekend, Alta has passed 600 inches of snow for the season. Which is the first time the ski area has recorded back-to-back winters of more than 600 inches in 15 seasons.

This season is far from over so we have no idea what Alta's final snow total will be, but it's pretty exciting to feel like this winter has brought notable snowfall. Especially after the high expectations created by last winter's historic snow.

Ski areas across the range are beginning to announce season closures and they're coming right up, so make sure you get out in the next few weeks to enjoy your last day(s) of lift-serviced skiing of the 2023/24 season!
