A second opportunity for the Sandy community to have input on the concept of a new neighborhood park is coming up tomorrow.

Deer Pointe Park, which is to be sited off of Meadow Avenue between Highway 26 and Fawn Street, has been a goal of multiple councils and was only a plan until recently. With the help of SDC funds, the city is working in the planning and public engagement phase of this park creation.

To garner public opinion on what they’d like to see in Deer Pointe, the department will host an open house event from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at the Sandy Community/Senior Center, 38348 Pioneer Blvd. This event is not only to provide information on the project thus far but to collect input on park priorities.

“We’re excited that this is a project that is finally getting up off the ground,” Parks and Recreation Director Rochelle Anderholm-Parsch explained. “We’d really appreciate the public engagement.”

The land for the park was partially set aside by the developers of Bull Run Terrace, and in total the park will sit on a three-acre parcel.

“It’s a priority in the Parks and Recreation Master Plan that took years,” Anderholm-Parsch said. “That area of the city is in need of a park.”
