NOT BORN YESTERDAY: Raging Grannies
This episode: Groups of older women have been raging – nonviolently — for peace, justice, and progressive causes in general for years. They are called the Raging Grannies and have 60 chapters in the US. Dressing in aprons, shawls, and outrageous hats, the Grannies riff on the stereotype of the “sweet little old lady” in order to deliver their strong opinions and satirical song lyrics. They rage at demonstrations, city halls, state legislatures and wherever they can sing their protest song lyrics. The Raging Grannies provide a positive example of channeling rage and despair. Our guest today is Raging Grannie Vicki Rider.

Inside Sutro Baths, San Francisco's Once Grand Bathing Palace
Standing at the Lands’ End parking lot, overlooking the ruins of Sutro Baths, it feels like the edge of the world. To the left, Point Lobos Road winds down towards the straight stretch of Ocean Beach, past the Cliff House restaurant perched atop an overlook. And out in front is the wild Pacific Ocean, crashing against a man-made seawall stretching across the bottom of the cove. A faint outline of square pools can still be seen, but it looks more like a playland for the ducks and cormorants than a place humans would want to swim.
