December 4, 1931 – May 1, 2024 - Lois Cameron Smith, was born (Lois Florence Cameron) December 4, 1931, in San Francisco, California, to Donald and Elsie (Ilse) Cameron. Lois died on May 1, 2024 at the age of 92 after succumbing to respiratory and cardiac issues at Meridian Park Hospital in Tualatin, Oregon. She passed away peacefully with her two surviving sons, Guy and Gus Wettstein, by her side.

Lois spent her childhood in the Sunset District of San Francisco where she and her older brother, Donald Sellars Cameron (d.2019), spent their time playing in the sand dunes, ocean beach, Playland and Golden Gate Park, as they watched the city develop around them through the 1930’s to 1950’s. Weekend/Summer trips were taken to the central valley and greater Bay Area with family and she had fond memories of camping in Yosemite National Park and Pine Crest, California.

Lois graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1949 and obtained an Associates Degree from SF City College. She had a long career as an executive assistant at companies including: Pacific Gas and Electric, Canby Union Bank, and Portland State University where she retired in 1996. In her retirement, Lois enjoyed traveling around the world including multiple trips to Europe, Asia, and all over North America.

Lois married Charles “Chuck” Smith in 1955 and was stationed with him in the Air Force in Hawaii until his untimely death in 1959. Lois was then married to William Wettstein from 1968 to 1984. They had two sons together, Guy and Gus Wettstein along with William’s children David, Margaret, Katherine, and Gary.

During her time in Oregon, Lois lived in Aurora, Hubbard and spent the past decade in Wilsonville where she was quite active in the Wilsonville Community Center, St. Cyril’s Catholic Church, Red Hat’s Society, Volks Walking groups and the Gold Star Wives.

Lois had numerous friends in the San Francisco and Aurora/Wilsonville communities who shared in her pastimes of travel, attending the performing arts, restaurants, movies, and of course local happy hours with her favorite drink, a dry martini!

Lois will be remembered as a caring and patient mother, as well as a doting grandmother to her four grandchildren, Samantha, Elisabeth, Kai, and Layne Wettstein and mother-in-law to Stephanie and Elisha Wettstein. She was a good friend to many and a sweet soul to all!

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 18, 2024, @ 1pm at St. Cyril’s Catholic Church in Wilsonville, Oregon.

Donations can be made in her honor to the Gold Star Wives of America - https://www.goldstarwives.org/Donate.
